I've been seeing some rather heated discussions about shield generators and which ones are best, and I've seen some claims that I've never heard and can't corroborate anywhere. My two questions are:

1) How long does reboot/repair take? I mean from the time you push the button until you have control of your ship. Relatedly, does reboot/repair also power all of your modules, or at least all of the one that were powered on and are set up properly in the power priorities, or do you have to wait from your modules (such as your FSD) to boot up after the process has finished.

2) How long does it take after your shields stop taking damage from them to start regenerating?

2. As soon as they are not receiving damage they start to recharge. However the time they take to recharge from being offline depends upon the shield spec and any mods.

While the reboot repair is happening everything in your ship is powered off, when the reboot finishes power should be restored to modules which will then take their normal time to become operational. A normal FSD for example will take 10 seconds to get into a position where it can be used.
I have no idea how long reboot and repair leaves you helpless but it always seems an age.

If your shields have been shut down you can speed up partial shield recovery by knocking the power off all your shield boosters, then when your shields have built up to an acceptable level switch the boosters back on this will reduce the level shown by the rings as your maximum shield strength has now increased.
