Some questions about what to expect on the 16th. (Newbie Help!)

Ok so some of these questions I have searched for answers for and some I would like a little more clarification on. I'm only going to throw a couple out at a time as most people stop answering/reading after 4 or 5 qu!estions.

Thank You in advance for your help!

P.S. I am aware of the New pilots guide (WIP) and have looked through it.

QUESTIONS:

1. I bought the Merc pack and it says it comes with an Eagle "stationed at a different location". Do I have to fly to it before I can access it or can I jump my pilot into the other ship right away? Also I'm hoping Frontier limits the distance away it is...I imagine it would suck if it showed up 250 Billion LY away.

2. Adding to this I do not understand how you manage your fleet of ships. Do you have one home station (that you can choose or move at will) or do you dock your ship wherever and only have access to your other ships that are at that station?

3. Are all new players starting in the same system? Is it a random start area? New player areas?

4. If I have a ship skin and the ship gets killed and I can not afford insurance do I lose the skin?

Thats all for now. If I get the answers I'll ask some more questions...or any other newbies that have question throw them out and I'll add them up here.

1. Your Eagle will be parked at a nearby station in the system you start in. To find it open the system map and look for a station with s hip icon next to it. That is your Eagle. You actually start in a sidewinder which you will need to use to get to the other station.
.
Don't start adding extra weapons to your Eagle, they have power problems and need the power plant module upgrading before they can be effectively upgraded with better weapons etc.
.
2. If you buy a ship at a station your current ship can either be sold or stored at that location. Currently if you want to use it again you will need to return to pick it up. There is/was talk of a ship delivery system being implemented but it isn't in game at the moment.
.
3. Starting locations are random.
.
4. Skins are always available but they are ship type dependant, so if you buy a viper skin it will only be useable on the viper. You may have to reapply the skin to the new ship (not sure as I haven't crashed for a while) Don't fly if you cannot cover your insurance, I always make at least 10% more credits before buying a new ship so I have insurance covered. Once you have a ship the replacement price is displayed in the righthand UI panel in the cockpit, just below your elite rankings

once you have a bit of cash behind you and several ships to chose from you can move them to another station if you want too, but its far from easy to do.

right now all you can do is buy a cheap sidewinder at your new home base, slap a nice fat FSD (Frame Shift Drive) in it and use it to jump back to collect another ship. once there sell the sidewinder and pilot your other ship back home.

as i said, not easy but it can be a lot of fun navigating a sidewinder 200+ Ly. it only has a small fuel tank so its best to install a fuel scoop as well or you may find yourself stuck in the middle of nowhere with no way of getting to a station. even then its risky as there are quite a few stars you just can't scoop from.

1. 250 Billion LY?

That would suck! I think 45.7 billion light years is the width of the universe so that would be a lot of fuel scooping.

Yea I'll definitely follow this advice. I probably won't even touch the eagle until I've had about 10 hours in and have gotten used to the game and learned how to survive and make some cash. And I can't get my joystick until Jan 1st so this might slow me down on risking spending a lot of money. I've done all the combat missions a couple times with K/M and I felt they were fairly easy even though I read a lot of people on the forums having trouble with them. But I do think that axis controls with a stick (especially one with a twist) will be much easier and give a slight advantage over K/M in firefighting. Especially at lower skill levels. I'm getting a Thrustmaster 160000M no separate throttle control will use it with the keyboard, tend to play on a laptop when I travel so it'll be a little easier.

I plan on only playing open no solo as I feel that would take away from the game...Not hating to each their own just threw this in to show why I will not touch the eagle for awhile.

I feel that things like the automatic ship transportation to a station will be implemented in future updates and that is fine with me. This will be an ever growing and expanding game world and mechanics. Even with the player group system I am okay to wait for, would rather have it right than rushed.

Welp two more days..I'll see yous out there! Thank you everyone for the responses.

When I was between joysticks I played with keyboard and mouse, and it was OK for trading/missions and getting from A to B. But I would never attempt to dogfight though. On the up side by keeping a low profile I managed to save up for my Cobra.
