Newcomer / Intro Some questions

Ok Becuase the search function on this forum is a load of spunk,

And the wiki isnt very helpful with these questions i will ask here.

1. I see talk about a home system, Now is this a thing like "i dock here a lot, this is my home" or is there a way to actualy set up a home system in game? if so how and what are the benifates to having a "home"

2 how do you gain rep and rank in a faction? is it mostly missions from the bulletin board?

3.is there a way to fuel scoop from dwarf stars? One run of exploration i ran into nothing but brown dwarfs and almost ran out of fuel.

4. is there a way to chnage the HUD color? The orange can be a pain when flying toward a star.

Thanks for your patience, Hope you can forgive my ignorance,
Happy flying

You can change the HUD colour, but it's done using a non-Frontier 3rd party manipulation of the code that may make your game unstable. I heard they plan to implement it as an actual feature at some point, but I wouldn't get your hopes up of it happening any time soon.

Thanks for your patents

I never gave you any patents. Are you stealing patents?!

It's the former - with the minor addition that players who make a system their home and regularly trade, fight and take missions there are likely to quickly become Allied with (some of) the factions there, and that players who own multiple ships may choose to put their spare ones in storage there.

2 how do you gain rep and rank in a faction? is it mostly missions from the bulletin board?

It's a range of things - killing and turning in bounties on their enemies, participating on their side in Combat Zones if a civil war breaks out, completing Bulletin Board missions for them, or simply trading goods at their stations.

3.is there a way to fuel scoop from dwarf stars? One run of exploration i ran into nothing but brown dwarfs and almost ran out of fuel.

Nope - see the list of scoopable star types here.

In your Galaxy Map, on the View tab, you can switch to Map view, then choose Star Type in the drop-down bar. By un-ticking all except the stars on that list, you can easily check whether your chosen route will get you into trouble.

4. is there a way to chnage the HUD color? The orange can be a pain when flying toward a star.

I've seen others use different colours, but haven't messed with it myself. A quick Google of "elite dangerous HUD colour" pops up some promising links.

1. Someone's "Home system" is just someplace they go to a lot, or use as a base of operations. I had one for a while. I liked the people there, and got to be Allied with the faction running the place.

2. Run missions for them, and turn in bounties in thier territory. Some mission descriptions specifically say the reward is "reputation gain" (most charity missions where you go buy something and donate it to them instead of sell it).

3. There are only certain types of stars that are "scoopable". There's a list somewhere out here on the boards, but I don't know where. Well, I guess Drake covered it. :)

4. As was said, you can manipulate the palette with a 3rd-Party app. I think it's best to wait for an official way.

For the HUD, this way:

It will not make the game unstable, however it can and will screw with ALL the colours, including the friend/foe markers on the radar
and especially those in the galaxy map. The former is easy to get used to, the latter not so much. If you need to plot trade routes
by seeing what is being traded where, you might want to stick with the default orange for the time being.

1. Yeah it is just a place you call your home and perhaps influence the politics to your liking...

2. You mainly improve your rep by missions, trading with the factions stations (this has a big effect - note that different stations in a system may be controlled by various different factions), turning in bounties and exploration data also improves your rep. A lot of things also have negative effect on your rep, e.g. bounty hunting a factions ships will make you lose rep with that faction, getting caught smuggling goods into their stations etc... I find that just by trading with a faction I get to friendly really quickly, and now my cargo capacity is large I can get to allied really quickly too.

As for ranks you have to do missions. get friendly and allied with the minor factions affiliated with Federation or Empire, trading, missions etc and you will be given Naval Progression missions. These can dry up so you may need to further boost your rep before they start coming again. I also find that near the Major factions home systems is a better place.

3. Copied from CMDR Nutter's exploration guide:

"Scoopable star class (Best to worst)
A, B, F, O, G, K, M

Phrase to remember
FOG KBAM - Driving in FOG you could hit somthing KBAM!

Not Scoopable L, T, Y - S, D, N & Black Hole"

4. I haven't done it yet, but I just did a quick search and found this http://www.pcgamer.com/how-to-change-the-colour-of-your-ships-hud-in-elite-dangerous/

Hope that helps, and enjoy :)

To expand upon scooping dwarfs, which has mostly been answered: no, you can't scoop Brown Dwarfs. Red Dwarfs are scoopable, though (they fall within the KGB FOAM classes).

This is not true. HUD color changes can be done via changing values in a config file. This does not involve third party code and will not make your game unstable. Because this does not allow you to change the color of a specific element, but rather a color shift of the entire HUD, you can make your HUD less useful. For instance, a lot of the schemes I've seen posted result in hostile blips on the scanner no longer being red.

I'd post details on how its done, but my notes and bookmarks are at home.

especially those in the galaxy map.

This isn't true anymore as far as I can tell.

Ah, nice. I messed with the colours again two days ago but only briefly and just noticed that the changes to the HUD now go into
a separate overwrite file. Good to know (but - will have to check - the colours of the factions did seem off).
