After playing for a few hours today, I've noticed a few regressions from Horizons:
I will say, though, that I absolutely love being able to get out of my ship. Makes the scale of everything a lot more apparent and makes the universe feel a lot more livable. I also really like the new hyperspace sequence. I'm sure it'll become old news after a handful of jumps, but for now I'm digging it. I'm looking forward to exploring more of Odyssey in the coming days.
Safe journeys!
- The role panel pops up when looking in its direction even when "Looking at Role Panel" is set to "Does Nothing". This is especially irritating in the SRV when prospecting meteorites and such where its convenient to be looking down while driving back-and-forth to quickly target and scoop up ores.
- Sparks no longer seem to fly and smoke no longer seems to rise upon overheating, and the frost effect on the canopy after using a heatsink or sitting below 10% heat seems to have been removed. Bumping up to Ultra didn't bring them back for me.
- The "loops" or "handles" (at a loss for the correct astronomical term) emanating from stars look decidedly worse: very polygonal, flat, and dull compared to Horizons.
- Judging by their portraits in the Engineers menu, they've all aged considerably! Every one now has grey or white hair. Poor Selene and her lovely red hair.
And their eyes all seems a bit more yellow than before, too. I visited Hera Tani, and she looks fine in person, so it's probably just a problem with that menu.
- The lines and icons on the sensor display seem a lot dimmer than before. On the Corvette, the bright light underneath the sensor display combined with the dimness makes it exceptionally hard to read.
- The "Show Controls" option in the new galaxy map doesn't seem to stick. Every time I bring up the galaxy map, the legend at the bottom of the screen is visible, regardless of the whether the setting is checked/unchecked.
- You can't quickly scroll through the vertical menus on the galaxy map with the D-pad on a gamepad. It stops at every separator line. I imagine it's the same with the arrow keys on the keyboard, but I haven't tested it.
- When going to board your ship from an SRV, the role panel shows an Anaconda regardless of what ship you are boarding. Felt like I'd walked up to the wrong car at the parking lot again... had to double check I wasn't trying to board someone else's ship!
- The shoulder decals on the flight suit are all sorts of messed up. It seems like they're being drawn twice, one offset and sort of angled sticking out of the suit towards the backpack. Trying to remove the decal entirely also doesn't seem to work.
- Has anyone figured out what favoriting a bookmark does? I favorited Jameson Memorial but I don't see any difference. It doesn't show up at the top of the list, and it doesn't go into a special sub-menu as far as I could tell.
