I have some sad news this afternoon.
We had news Thurs night that CMDR Thomassen (Rolf) sadly collapsed during the day and didn't wake up again.
I know quite a few posted on our previous message in the Hutton FB page about his rush to hospital last week - and it is of no small comfort to have spent the last week talking to him, monitoring his recovery and ensuring that he had friends to talk to day or night. He considered his Hutton friends, and the wider Elite community as family, and was unashamed to say it on a regular basis.
He had been discharged from hospital after an aneurysm and discovery of a few clots with some good medication. His up-beat posts in reply to everyone's messages were an encouragement that he was recovering and would soon be back in action.
Turns out, Rolf being Rolf, he'd thrown himself back into life once he was discharged and the dice roll on his health didn't land favourably. Up to that point, we were SURE he'd looked the reaper in the eye, kicked him firmly in the diddlydoodahs and sent him packing with a tear in his eye and a good limp.
A titan of Hutton times - Custodian of Epsilon Indi (and a HUGE part of helping us win it), he will be missed by everyone immensely.
He was enormously touched by everyone's messages whilst he was in hospital and he will have begun his final journey absolutely SURE that he counted many many people as friends and that his friends were thinking of him right up to the end.
My thanks to CMDR Vanion Steele for keeping us up to date. Both he and I are a little shocked as we were chatting to Rolf right up to Thurs.
I have sent our most heartfelt condolences and love via Vanion to Rolf's family and closest friends. His mother has written back to us, having had a copy of many of the messages of condolence, and the words above thanking everyone for being his friend and thinking of him, and her.
As always, to mark the passing of one of our friends, the Hutton show next Thursday evening will kick off with an obituary and few words in memory of a lost wingmate. If anyone has any words they'd like us to read out, then please - do send them over and we'll include them.
We will also be contacting Frontier to add his name to the memorial in game alongside other fallen friends from the last few years.
Rest in peace, you glorious man and wherever your journey takes you next, we're SURE you'll turn up with a "point me at what we're doing tonight!"
