Some simple advice for a newbie please :)

First of all I'm new to the game, a few days in. Really enjoying it so far, even when I got interdicted by a commander in a cobra mk 3, who decided that I should not live... Managed to hyperspace out with 20% hull. Unpleasant but adrenaline inducing nonetheless...

Like I say, I'm enjoying the experience but I do have one problem. My gaming time is limited and is constantly interrupted, if you have 3 kids I'm sure you understand!

Now I know there's no ability to pause, and I don't want to get drawn into a game design argument. It is what it is and I'm fine with that.

But is there a way to minimise your visibility to reduce the likelihood of being blown away while your afk? My dad came to visit yesterday and wasn't impressed that he had to wait in the living room until I had docked.

Your constructive feedback would be appreciated

Playing Solo or PvE Group (like Mobius) will reduce your exposure to PC's interdicting you, for whatever reason, but wont stop NPCs doing so.

You could just log out whilst still in space, if you need to be AFK for any time.

Don't leave your ship, just exit to the menu or exit the game. Timers still run but your ship is not visible to anyone/anything to shoot.

You could switch to either group or solo play. Or simply log to the main menu - reconnecting is really quick then. For example, you're on your way to dock at a station and can already see it but have to go afk. Log to main menu and when you're back you'll be at a standard distance from the same station, probably around 8-10km in normal space.

Same for if you log out during supercruise, you'll be back around the main star in normal space.

You could also just drop out into normal space if you're supercruising. I'd just log to the main menu, it's simply the safest way.

If you just exit to menu it is quick to get back in again (at least on Solo). No reason to finsh anything and even in combat it's only 15 seconds.

Several options:
1. As stated play solo or join a group.
2. The preferred option is to jump to somewhere less popular, the starting systems are notorious for being attacked by commanders. You will still get interdicted by NPC's however in both options.

Safest thing to do is log off. But if that seems too extreme, you can usually just throttle to zero, drop out of SC and sit in your own personal instance. As long as you're not spotted by another CMDR, who could drop in on your wake, you'll usually be okay for ten minutes or so. But logging off is the safest option.

I don't suggest doing this, since 1.3 NPCs can and will come and find you. Even if you are 600ly's outside of inhabited space, if you drop to normal space pirates can spawn and try to kill you.

Fair enough, but it's not happened to me yet, and I quite often do this whilst I make a cup of tea or pop to the loo.

Perhaps a "Ragequit" might be in order when I finally do! :D

Hi commander, I can definitely relate to your situation as I am constantly interrupted as well.
The coolest way I've found to do this is as follows:

Drop out of supercruise so your simply in normal space.
Boost in a random direction to build up momentum.
Go to modules in your right panel and power down everything apart from life support. Make sure you power off thrusters aswell.

Your ship will now cool right down and basically become a chunk of ice drifting through space virtually invisible to any other ships radar. I have left my ship spinning like this for hours without any incident.

You can see your heat signature on the bottom right of your hud which shows how visible you are and you will see using the above method that it basically flatlines.

See you in the void.

Play in Solo mode is an option, but not if you're currently in Open.

I would suggest dropping out of supercruise at a good distance from planets/stars and then throttling to zero before logging off.

Cheers,

Drew.

i do this from time to time since i play whit the overwolf ingame overlay, and instead of alt tabbing i use that to surf the web and other things, so sometimes i drop out of SC just to do that.
and unless im flying a large ship that has a long shield recharge i have the habit of going into silent running, no npc that has dropped in on me so far has spotted me while i have been doing that.
