This happened to me yesterday.
Just finished building my new rig for just over 850 credits, err I mean pounds stering. So what better way to test than an afternoon in Elite. I was flipping between solo/open, trying out 3 monitors etc u kno the drill.
Anyways ended up in an expansion system by Zachary (its rude to point) Hudson for Military strike zones after checking open/solo bulletin board for missions. Then I was interdicted, 'been interdicted hundreds of times, always submit and collect my easy bounty in solo. On this occasion, also trying new loadout for optimum one system combat, sacrificing my KWS, FSD interdicter, cargo..improving shields, point defence etc. Exiting super cruise while eating my lunch (complacent or what?!).
Whoa..barrage hits me immediately, I put down my tray, pull my hotas close, deploy weapons...here's the rub, it's 2 cmdrs in Clippers and I realise I'm in OPEN, not solo doh! While doing this, 'power exceeded modules offline' msg appears (not unusual with use of module priority when hardpoints deployed), however 'cos of my loadout changes, my shield generator has gone offline..double doh! I start firing up close to clipper no 1, my lasers fail, what's goin on now? has my module failed? no, my pips are set to eng and sys..treble doh! - this is goin decidedly ' upwards'..I decide to get out of there, but no chance now! I am an ex-cmdr. Moral of this story-'pay attention u muppet'.
To the Clippers cmdrs, did they grief me? hell no! in fact I loved it, adrenalin, heart pumping action and teaching me a lesson into the bargain..thats what this game is all about..just wish I'd been ready for u & put up more of a fight!
To all those who complain ED is boring, that it's Grindhog Day (no, not what Prince William calls the classic Bill Murray movie), there is nothing more unpredictable than real people..GET INTO OPEN! Whoever said that they never see any real players in game..I saw 6-7 other cmdrs straight after, in 15-20 mins, while staking out the station, waiting for Cmdr Sketchy & pal to re-appear!
