Somebody cheer me up

I'm getting depressed now with the vibe on the forum. Do you think FD expected the mood to be like this or rather one of excitment? Do you think they are surprised by the general reaction?

Do we have reasons to be hopeful?

Might want to step away for a while then.

I don't think the mood on the forums is uppermost in FD's collective minds right now, they have other things to focus on.

If they're aware of it, I doubt they are surprised. They've been around long enough not to worry too much about the febrile atmosphere in a place like this this close to launch.

Do we have reasons to be hopeful?
Yes, yes we do. :)

I really wish a dev would at least post something about it :/

If 3 new threads in one morning trying to kickstart your excitement isn't doing it you should probably take the other guy's advice and do something else and come back later.

I'm honestly not being mean it does help. Same goes with the game if you play the same small shard of a demo we have over and over you are going to burn out. Take a breather come back tackle different topics and features and look forward for new stuff to be released in the near and longer term and all will be well.

Works for me.

DB has been nurturing his baby... this baby... along for 20 years. The FD team are dedicated and love what they are doing. They are making the game they want to make and they are very proud of it. Do you really think they will muck it up now? Keep the faith.

They are maintaining radio silence on the forums currently (well, almost), I'm sure they would of expected the usual mixed emotions.

But they are very good at letting their hard work do the talking, before each release it usually builds to fever pitch, followed by gasps of awe. :)

I am expecting the next few weeks to be pretty exciting to say the least.

As far as I can tell (I'm a recent beta buy in), there is a private backer forum where some of the "old timers" have retreated to get away from the Nth million iteration of threads, queries, questions and rants they're fed up of talking about.

Then there are a bunch of more recent folks who bought into the beta who haven't seen all this stuff over and over and are asking the questions others have seen n Million times already.

That, and its generally my experience that as population on a forum increases, the signal to noise ratio deteriorates pretty quickly. I've only been here a bout 3 weeks, and it got markedly worse about a week before the release announcement.

As for being hopeful - if you're enjoying what you've seen so far, sure, plenty. If not, well, can't help you there!

There are people who have been here many times longer than you and have a fraction of the perspective, have some rep. :)

People were much more positive when things were "Beta" rather than "Soon release." Since I already gave them £80 I guess I can't do much else than wait and see the results.

That's because most people seem to think that beta is a conclusive indicator of the final game.

The beta is a beta and personally I think it's somewhat foolish to think that it is a 1:1 representation of what the final product will be like.

I totally agree. So far we have just been given small segments of the game to test and yet people keep complaining about it not being polished enough. There is also the assumption that when the final game is released there will be no further updates (OMG it isn't ready for release, not finished!!!!!!).

Personally I have every confidence in FD. Every patch so far has impressed me and I know they will continue working on the game for years to come. Most other companies release a game and pretty much forget about it.

Fair to say the forums have changed a lot particularly since the release of Beta. It's a lot busier which is a good thing in general, but a lot of subjects that have been done to death in the past get raised with the best of intentions by newer members and done to death all over again. There also seems to be a lot of pessimism at the moment and hopefully that will recede once we get the Gamma release.
.
I find myself spending less time on the boards these days for a number of reasons.

I would imagine they are largely surprised. There was always going to be some grumbling (not always unjustified, IMO - especially when it cam from me) but it has been rather loud and sustained at this point. And I can't help but think Frontier's decision to go to has not played into this.

Do we have reasons to be hopeful?

In the long run I think so (assuming the game is a commercial success) but I've lowered my expectations in the short term.

i have to say i dont really matter... in my mind lol... because i was ''attracted'' to the game a year ago, the fact of elite game coming back , but this time in full HD and with the wonders graphics we have today.... i couldnt wait longer just to join the forums and chat.... so yeah. whatever happens. it will be...

back in the days, David created the previous game on his own, so you know its much more easier to create a game when you live no stress from any public, id imagine.... than having 100 000 backers id imagine maybe :p xD ?

The silence from the dev's only makes my belief stronger that they are going to blow everyone away with the gamma release, a sort of middle finger to those doom sayers.
