If a 2080ti can't push the limits of what we have now, I don't wanna know what kind of GPU I'd need fro that at max resolution.

Not as much as you'd think. The article is a bit misleading. Only a small display in the center of vision is 60 ppd. Last I read about the prototypes, the central display is 1920x1080 (just packed in a really small space), while the outer display is 1440x1600 (this is all per-eye).
