SOMEONE EXPLAIN "STATE" IN GALAXY MAP

I put on the "State" filter and remove everything except War and Civil War. Someone please explain to me WHY in at *least 80% of those systems marked as in a war, or civil war... there is NO war or civil war. Nothing. It's ing me off to no end looking for some combat zones, and all the things the map is telling me are at war... aren't. Am I missing something here? Or, is this just another in the list of ten trillion things Frontier broke when they released Engineers? Of which... Frontier... anytime you want to fix it so I don't have to change my turret mode back to target only*EVERY         TIME I LEAVE A SYSTEM* that would be awesome. Same with my scanner settings. Please stop resetting it everytime I jump a system. And, you still haven't really fixed the docking computers. And, while I enjoy the unlimited ammo, exactly how long am I going to have unlimited kinetic ammo? Sorry about that folks. Slipped out.
Anyways, what am I reading wrong about war states? If it says Civil War, or War... I expect there to be a war there.

The trouble is the gal map data aren't "live" - They only update once a day or sometimes simply once in a while. It gives you a good indication of what's going on in the sector, but you can't take it for granted. The most reliable way to find a war is to create one. ;) If you choose a small system, let's say, under 10k population it can be done in a day of work, if you're lucky (if there are two factions less than 20% apart from each other.

And yes. The turret thing is frustrating, no argument there. But I think you need to chill out before posting here, you're on the way to infraction. :D

I think he's pretty safe as far as infractions go. The correct attitude right now should not be calm acceptance.

The problem is more complex. As I reported in the bug forum:

Hey Jonny, any luck fixing this one? If its any help, I think I found the problem: Strictly speaking the code is working, its just not doing anything particularly usefull. :p The 'war state' flag is activated for every system that is the homesystem of a minor faction that is at war *somewhere*, either in their homesystem or in a system they expanded into. So if in System A there is a war between two minor factions, who originated in System B and System C respectively, the war state flag will be put on System B and System C (both of which wont have any CZs), but not in System A (where there are CZs, but neither of the involved factions comes from there). Its akin to flagging the USA as being in a state of war during Desert Storm: technically correct, but not very useful when you're trying to find a battlefield. :p

All-caps titles and foul language is NEVER acceptable, no matter how mad or "in the right" you are, sorry.

Have a virtual rep. I wasted it on some unimportant post of yours. :)
Good to have more insight.

Cheers, and you're welcome. Unfortunately, it means fixing it is more time-consuming than a simple coding error or typo. Considering they only have a fixed ammount of time for bugfixing, I fear they may spend that time on easier bugs to fix. And until they fix it, the 'war' state is effectively useless: it now tells you that within 20LY there is a system at war, which are dozens of systems. Randomly going through them is just as time consuming as if you had no info: there's bound to be a different war in that region anyway.

The problem is more complex. As I reported in the bug forum:

actually both is true. GALAXY MAP ISN'T LIVE a) when a war is resolved (station changes hand), it still shows as an active state even in system map/right hand panel, but there won't be any CZ. this has to do with the order how the BGS works through states/influence changes/ assets ownership. b) one day after the war is resolved, it doesn't show up as an active state in system map/right hand panel, but still shows in galaxy map. again. order of how things get processed. c) 2 days after war is resolved, it will update on the galaxy map... THE PROBLEM IS MORE COMPLEX d) add to that, what sleutelbos explained perfectly - war is a minor faction state, a minor faction can only have one state at a time, so it will show "war" wherever the minor faction is in control of a system, whether the war is in that system or not.

tl;dr: it is wrong or not in sync in approx. 85% of all cases ;-)

And that's the way the cookie crumbles!

And on top of what you and Sleutelbos accurately depicted it's just a tad bit more complex. Even when the galmap game state updates that doesn't get pushed to your client till a relog. So if on the 2nd day the galmap updates and you log in you'll see it correctly but somebody who's been on continuously will not. Documented here:https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ntation-can-appear-out-of-sync-with-game-stat and originally tracked down starting at this post here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...al-Isolators?p=4172417&viewfull=1#post4172417

Unfortunately QA mis-interpreted it as Goemon's case of simply not updating. But two people can absolutely see different states unless they both relog.

ah, the cache hits again! thanks for adding this. we should do a case study all together :)

GalMap shows the presence of a faction in a State of War or Civil War.

Factions can only be in one state at a time, although they can be in many systems.

If a faction is in more than just a few systems, then there will be a player group pushing it.

To follow the analogy above, it's less like America being at war in Iraq, more like Indonesia being at war in West Papua.
You need to be following the 'local' politics and have a clue what's going on in your area.
When you do that, the GalMap states filters are very useful.
