Something Elite Dangerous ships desperately need

You know, I just saw something that Elite sorely needs: rear-view camera feed for ships. Like seriously, there's no way to see if you're going to back into something or just check behind you short of using the camera suite. We have back up cameras on cars now, so it makes sense that it would be a thing on something as view-challenged as a spaceship.

Over 24 hours and the Mods have not merged this, with the dozen or more threads, asking for a rear view of some sort.

If you must: Set up the camera mode, to look back, in the first instance, you use it.

At first when I read this, I thought no.. On two grounds it's not badly needed (sure, It would ne a nice extra, as would lhe landing cam also mentioned in anothe reply, but is is by no means important)., and secondly - it would involve processing graphics twice, from two different PoV - which would be a client PC load, possibly a game breaker for some with low spec HW.

Then I had another thought...

When I play I'm in VR. When I look, I see the back of my flight deck not the 21st century room behind me. What if the pilot could flip into an augmented virtual reality mode within the game. When the pilot looks around, the cockpit surround does not render. instead you see what is outside... Just the instruments and panels render over a 360x360 degree outside view... I'm thinking of the situational awareness in certain scenarios, particularly combat...

In the thread about enjoyable things. in ED, I mentioned going back to an Eagle (which I missed in my initial early game play), and taking that to a Low Res zone for some BH fun... I mis-timed one turn and my enemy buzzed past me a little (maybe 110 degrees behind me, to my right and slightly high. I was able to keep him in sight through the large Eagle canopy. It stuck me as being very helpful in that situation.

Not gonna lie, that'd be useful

. When the pilot looks around, the cockpit surround does not render.

that effect happens to jodie foster in the film contact
also I read in a promethius concept that the juggernaut alien vessel did the same when the engineer dons his suit and enters navigation pilots chair
