CQC Something I don't understand

Hello,

I know that Elite:Dangerous detection is based on Heat (Infra-Red). That means no-heat management could make you easier to track.

The stealth powerup makes you undetectable, Ok.

Silent Mode makes the same but you have to "release" the heat if you don't want to be damaged by it.

And I guess that releasing a Heat Sink makes you untargetable by gimballed weapons (I see that frequently on Eagles).

But something happened tonight: A commander in an Imperial Fighter had the same effect on my gimballed lasers, especially when I disable his shield. I had to finish him in fixed mode or nearly (the gimballed locking area was very small).

How can it be possible ? Imperial Fighter does not have Heat Sink... No ? When I disable his shield he's supposed to be colder, ok , but it doesn't work on other Commanders.

What can be his module configuration ?

...Or, could it be cheating ?

Most likely silent running, triggered when his shields went down. Were they using rapid cannons? Imp fighter can go quite a few seconds without too much heat buildup. I saw another CMDR using this trick a few times, it can be very effective. Best defense is to practice aiming without target lock.
