Something I missed or is this new?

I tried searching "Barnacle" and "changes" but couldn't find anything so I'm going to go ahead and ask.
I haven't been to a barnacle location since Horizons so this might be normal.
But I don't remember them making noise, having green goop around them, and giving off green "smoke"
Is this a new development or something that they've been doing since Odyssey dropped?

They always made noise, dunno if it's the same noise you're hearing though. The green smoke is new to me. Don't remember the goop either.

There was always kind of a green glow on the ground, and yeah, there was always a low moaning noise but um, that smoke is new. Is something hatching? That IS new to me, anyway.

I think they always had a sort of sparkly vapour issuing from the top, but that looks a little more pronounced.

I visited a barnacle three days ago, can confirm green goo and noise (like a low groan) in EDH, no smoke.

This was a few days before the Proteus Wave backfired, in Odyssey, little green goo, no smoke.

This morning I went to the night side of the planet. Glow visible from 4.90km. And pronounced when on location. This feels new to me. This is Merope 2 A. The sound coming off it sounds like crystalline humming on top of the low grumbly that I normally associate with Thargoid sounds. Again, I've not spent a lot of time examining barnacles since collecting meta alloys year or so back. Also, for the sounds I have posted a video

I remember the gurgling noise and that whine might be background "make you nervous" music but that mist from the top is new. Also, much more green goo than I remember the first time I visited there many years ago when we could find land there. Something's leaking or someone's water broke.
