You notice how anyone who is male tries so hard to make themselves look as threatening, and intimidating as possible?

Are we just talking about basic gender behaviour here?

Discuss.

I've had a lot of guys on various gaming boards. I'm trying to have a civil debate, and they come in and it feels like they're trying to bully me out.

A quick read of their profiles, and they all say they're 20-somethimg men.

Obviously this isn't necessarily true, but I do get the impression that testosterone causes a lot of guys to show their worst on the Web.

This is on other gaming forums BTW. Mostly MMORPG's.

There you are talking about the 'my ego is the biggest ever', kind of male thing.

I think you maybe meant something like

"Ever notice how, when somebody on the internet tries to appear as hard and intimidating as possible, it always turns out to be a male, typically a 20-something one?"

I don't think you meant that every male is like that, but that the head cases are male, right?

Not really noticed that in ED. Maybe because we seem to have an older player base. Most of the male avatars I see in game tend to be old grey haired gits. Possibly because the players try and make them look like themselves. Thats why mine looks like that at least :)

People hide behind their keyboards and don't realise that IP addresses are logged and can be traced if they overstep the mark.

Probably because we're biological creatures and the male sex has testosterone, the hormone that makes us.. well.. aggressive, competitive and intimidating. Now clearly, the people you've met must not have a lot of emotional intelligence to keep their chemicals in check.

NOTE: They're probably not trying hard at all, it's more difficult to keep them in check than to not.

I'd also like to add that on the internet where there is more or less complete anonymity, there is no shame in expressing oneself, especially on the lesser moderated platforms, where Free speech truly reigns.

I suggest you take things with a grain of salt and realise you can also scratch back, on those places that allow it.

Oy! Watch it!

I'm just "role playing" the part of Frank the bumbling old man who fires on his friends by mistake. (edit: and can't write a post without a typo). In reality I have the face of Brad Pitt and the physique of Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson.

And I will continue to have them until they catch me and force me to give them back.

Stephen Lawhead got it quite well quite simply.

"The children were filled with a spirit of joy, the young women with a spirit of love, and the young men with a spirit of war."

How do you know they are male? - Now that is the real question, in an online world where you can literally make yourself into anybody you want to be with a simple few taps on the keyboard...
