Newcomer / Intro Sometimes when I leave a dock, the Starbase gets really upset. Why?

Sometimes, just after leaving the dock, the starbase which was quite pleasant before gets really upset, telling me I am in a restricted area and should leave NOW or security will be informed. I`m paraphrasing a little.

At first i thought it was because my gears were down and I touched the base entrance a bit on leaving, but with everything raised and going through the middle pretty much perfectly, I still, at times, get an upset Starbase control.

Is it because I`m moving too slowly after just leaving the exit?

Yep.

Move too slowly through the slot going out, and the ATC (STC?) will get upset.

Upper speed limit is 100 m/s - try to move at least 60 m/s (IIRC - it's been some time since I last docked anywhere as I'm currently ~26,000 ly from Sol) in order to avoid upsetting the controller. Otherwise, ususally, that has no ill effects as long as you clear the slot within the countdown.

You're going too slowly through the slot; sometimes you'll get pad loitering warnings when you're moving slowly toward your assigned landing pad and linger too long over another pad, too. No big deal as long as you clear the area before the warning timer expires.

The same thing applies to speeding warnings, to an extent. No big deal to get the warnings, as long as you don't hit the station or another ship while speeding.

Apart from taking too long to clear the slot: Because your ship stops rotating "in-sync" with the station as you go through the slot you can easily brush against the "toast rack" outside the slot. Just touching it produces the sharp sound and red warning text. Worst case is leaving your landing gear down and getting caught in the toast rack which leads to being hung-up and in danger of obliteration if you don't get loose and away PDQ.

You'll get a dangerous flying fine if you're speeding ( over 100 m/s ) and have a collision, no matter who's fault it is. ATC doesn't have time to hold an enquiry every time there's a bump, so dishes out tough justice (as anyone who ever had a station open fire on them will tell you). The same story with the OP .. although you need to keep to a legal top speed, the station wants you out of the flight corridor and away from it's docking pads a.s.a.p.

Note that if you kill someone in a collision whilst speeding you will get a bounty on your head and the station and security will try to shoot you.

Station will "try" to shoot you? Have you ever had a station fire on you?! Back in the day I accidently shot someone in the no fire zone (my wingmate in fact as I pressed the wrong button). Within seconds I was dust and he had a fireworks show to watch!

I didn't say that the try would fail, especially now they have ferned* the station armaments, but I am not a glass half full guy I am a the glass is falling on its side with the contents heading straight for the vents of the computer type of guy so I know that a definitive Station will destroy the atoms your exploding ship was made from comment would get dozens of comments stating that all that happened to them was the station guns healed their ships.
