Somewhat "decent" fps in VR

TLDR: Try and lower the STEAM VR resolution (in STEAM VR Settings) and see if it helps, but be aware that it might actually decrease fps when you lower res. Strange

I have been taking an ED break, waiting for things to be fixed, but I miss flying spaceships in VR, and I recently installed a fresh copy of Win11, so I decided to give EDO a try. My first impression after letting the game find the "best" setup was alarmingly bad, but then I started experimenting on my own.

I have a somewhat "beefy" setup: Reverb G2, RTX 3070 and Ryzen 3950x.

First I lowered everything to absolute minimum, but that was far from enough to get 90 fps. Then I lowered the STEAM VR resolution down to 20%. That helped a lot, but didn't look good. I also tried to go to the places I normally find problematic, like planet surfaces and inside stations, and did some testing there. Everytime I changed a setting I logged out and in again. Tedious, but the only way to test different settings.

I ended up using FSR at "balanced", and STEAM VR res set to 60%. I tried 70% and saw a significant fps drop, but the same happened when I went down to 50%, so at least with my setup it seems that there is some sort of "sweet spot" with regards to the two different settings, those being STEAM VR and in game supersampling. Has any of you experienced anything similar?

All in all I ended up having a relatively sharp image and 50-90 fps (~60-80 exploring a planet surface), which actually makes the game playable again. I have always set Bloom to off, but in EDO it spices up the different material highlights. Personal preferences, but try it out. Also Terrain at Ultra (or Ultra+) has a huge visual impact (no surprise), while many other settings can be left at low without major degradation of the overall experience.
