Engineers Soo, now thermal cascade cannons are THE thing...

Seems like the latest balancing patch still left us with an unbalanced weapon, thermal cascade cannons. they don't even seem to work according to how FDev said, they can push you over 100 percent heat even if you are only maneuvering, not even boosting. This could be related to their high hit rate if you install 4 to 5 on a Cutter or Corvette.

Will there ever be balanced combat again? last time it took forever to more or less balance things, although as we see now they're really not. Luckily there is mainly one group abusing this right now, but being completely fried at a CG by two Cutters without any chance to counter this isn't fun and reminds painfully of the initial thermal shock / cascade meta.

Any hope?

Let's hope it's a bug and not by design, I thought heat damage from thermal cascade had a hard cap?

Looking at the video, it appears that once over 100%, they stop dumping additional heat it. The problem is that when you're close to but below 100%, that big spike gets added in and pushes you over. My guess is that Frontier's code looks at the current heat and says, "less than 100%. Do your thing, heat cannon", instead of saying, "Target at 98% heat. You can add 2% more, but the rest of the heat from that shot will be ignored."
 
Yeah could be... but with the high hit rate of cannons, especially from a full wing, this will destroy you almost like it did before the patch. So yeah... Do this, or run from everyone who uses it -> great pvp.

watch from like 15 seconds, he goes from 60% to 142% in one hit. And that was a single FAS hitting him.

I thought this is as intended as any further use of your own weapons or boost add on top of this which is what the point was..to get you to stop firing was as much when hit by this weapon. What's the problem? You want a heat weapon? Thermals are for that!!!

Different Ships surely have a different capped %.

Ok guys, so... you guys think i'ts normal wait more than a month to a BUGFIX? (And i'ts not sure they will fix something.)
Where is the patchs, were is the corrections? we will need to wait 2.3 to MAYBE get some bugs fixed?

Let's push the devs, i don't know if you guys see but they are rushing to delivery new content ( Half that they promisse) and they don't even fixed what is wrong.
I never see one online game that BUGS that really mess with PVP, and the staff just do nothing.

Yeah but you see that I am severly overheating without doing any of these things??

edit: Just in case you think "you are not overheating that much, its not a problem": It is, since this heat can be sustained over a long time, your modules will damage significantly. I was heat sinking in the video since I saw the first heat sink launcher malfunctions coming, which then destroy my ability to SCB, and if your FSD just goes down to 75% or so, you have a significant chance that you get two consecutive malfunctions when you want to wake out. In a big wing fight, that usually means you are dead, especially in a big ship.

Not 100% sure this is even a bug. There does seem to be diminishing returns, other thermal effects can still push a ship well past 100% and keep it there, in the right situations.

Even if you take Frontier's statement at face value, your heat level is never from "external attacks alone"...most ships are in the 30-40% range doing nothing, and plenty can get much hotter while firing and boosting. The lowest heat you can see without a heatsinks is 1-2% with all modules disabled. If the effect stopped at 95% absolute heat level, no matter the standing heat level of the target, or what the target did, it would be completely useless. It does seem to be spiking to slightly more than standing heat + 95%, but only barely and only for a split second.

Well it goes to 140%, and then slowly comes down. That is significant, and if it constantly happens in a long(ish) fight, that will fry your modules, especially the FSD. I have no idea if it would be useless otherwise, but in the current form its totally overpowered. These are demonstrations with 1 or 2 ships, I have several times encountered full wings using these weapons, there is no way to win against it.

Some one told me that doing small patches on a cross platform is no efficient whatever that means probebly takes a pile of hoopala to get it past micro-soft and soon sony but i understand your point i too have played far more complex mmo's than this that spit patches within days of an update.
We might have to except that frontier cant or wont do this. I actually find it more frustrating that frontier dont tell us anything. But after 2 years i think i,ve got used to it.

This is a bug. For whatever reason this work only on fixed cannons. Everythin perfect with gimbal, but fixed is straght broken.
