Newcomer / Intro Sorcerer44 new player on ps4

Hi
I am trying to play ED on a PS4. Works so far extremely well.
graphics are absolutely stunning, and quicker than some FPS games previously played.
this is my second session, in the trading side in the sidewinder.
I have played elite in the early 80’s on a 8086 ibm type pc.wire frame graphics!
also played all the X series.
ED is however an amazing learning curve.
the key mapping is not intuitive yet. I deploy hard points by mistake etc.
the auto landing/takeoff and travel between planets is astonishing to me.
well done you guys I will be learning and playing now for ages.

Welcome back to the Elite Galaxy commander!

As an '80s Elite veteran you will find many familiar things in this version of the game and even more totally new things to learn and explore. There are many Elite '80s veterans playing Elite Dangerous (like me). This game never gets old (only we do ;)).

You've probably already found most of the resources listed below, nevertheless have a look at them and don't hesitate to ask questions here in the forum.

In-game help is available in the form of menu links to the Pilot's Handbook and the Codex (right-hand cockpit panel 1st tab).
For a very good beginner's guide see: An in-depth beginner’s guide to Elite: Dangerous.
Tutorials covering all aspects of the game, many of them in the form of YouTube videos, are available from ED Tutorials.
If you wonder what to do in the vast open world of Elite, the Elite Dangerous Career Chart has all career options laid out for you.
There is a wealth of useful information available in these forums spread out over hundreds of threads. Thanks to commander @Alec Turner you can access all of that information and more via a single thread: Alec's best of the forum (and elsewhere) [v2].
Also check out the inara.cz and eddb.io websites with (almost) realtime info on practically everything in the game.
The coriolis.io and edsy.org websites let you design your ships before buying them.
And last but not least, the Elite Dangerous Wiki contains extensive information on nearly all aspects of the game.

Thank you.
I still find it daunting, it is a long time I really sat and played a strategic game. Since my PS4 initiation I have only used FPS games.
there is an amazing amount of help for beginners, and there is very little similarity to the older games for me.
however I do regognise some of my favourites( mamba, cobra) for instance.
I haven’t yet found a page which compares the available ships and what class they are ie fighter, hauler, scout.
I was in the region of poppers keep this pm and was interdicted and subsequently attacked. However I survived with a blown hatch. I had never heard of interdiction or haw to counter!
thanks for a great game I can see the winter is not going to be as long as I thought.

Underneath all the new stuff the classic Elite gameplay and progression is still there: trade to earn credits to upgrade your ship or buy another ship and do combat to increase your ranking. In Elite Dangerous this is applied to many other parts of the game world like in earning reputation with factions and super powers, discovering engineers, etc. and last but not least our old enemies the Thargoids are back too.

The Wiki has a nice overview of all ships.
