Newcomer / Intro Sorry one more question please

This is the Seeker Missiles Versus the Pack Hound Missiles. We know that missile really suck against shields but hull splash damage is the key here. Do all of those hound missiles do a lot of splash damage or are the seeker missile better off as splash damage?
Thanks for any advice Commanders....o7

When comes to blasting external modules, Pack hounds seem to be much better thanks to sheer volume of fire. Normal seekers are better when you manually aim them against a particular module.
So the answer is - it depends. If you want just pepper your target with missiles, wreaking havok, Pack hounds are awesome. If you want to destroy that one pesky Plasma Accelerator your opponent is spamming you with, a couple of well-aimed shots with a regular seeker missile will do the job quicker.

I only use missiles on bigger ships, though. If I am in something smaller and agile, something like a pair of multicannons will do the job much quicker and will be more cost-effective, also.

Again another question you have answered, Chris. Been wondering about missiles for awhile now. But my question is are they as bad as I keep reading about? Where would you use them? Are they something one should consider outfitting your ship with? Also which one(s) are the best to use? Thanks for any information given. Please enjoy your ED Life!

Missiles are... polarising. Some people love them, because they're fun to use, some people hate them, because they consider them "a wasted hardpoint"

The truth is in the middle, as usual. They are nowhere near as effective as the rest of the Class 2 weaponry, but they DO have uses.
If you ask me where would I equip them, it would probably be something like trading/mining T9 or T10. They are pretty much useless against bigger ship, because of the low DPS, but they are quite effective against smaller ships.
The key word is blast radius. If you hit an Anaconda with a missile, they will just shrug it off, maybe you'll do some damage ot one module or weapon you accidentally hit. But hit a pirate in an Eagle or Viper and you're wrecking their thrusters, weapons, utility mounts... all in one volley, because the blast radius basically engulfs the tiny ship.

To me, they are very much a defensive weapon on a ship that is not capable of a dogfight. Something to fend off smaller ships. As an assault wapon they are unsustainable. They are expensive and the ammo is very limited.

And I'd always go with guided missiles, be it pack hounds or regular seekers. Dumbfire missiles dish out more damage, but honestly, if you're trying to hit something with a slow projectile, you'd be better off with something like a plasma accelerator.

If your opponent is using a pointdefense, than a single seeker missile has really bad chances to even hit.
But with packhounds you can simply flood your opponent and can blast the pointdefense away.
This is the main reason why i prefer packhounds over the seeker missiles ;)

Missiles have the general advantage, that you can fire at your opponent when he is already out of your firing arc due to target lock. So they are extremely good if you have a slow ship with low time-on-target aiming. For aiming at thrusters this is very good since they use to malfunction already at 40%-60% integrity which is done fast with missiles. A target that can't move won't shoot back and is easy bait.

Lucius-Darcia, Thank you for your information. Seems as on a ship like the Beluga, they could be a good choice. Yes/No?

Your Information as always, is right on target for me. Thanks!

Uhhh... right, I've not been in combat yet so please forgive the newbity here. You can/have to target the enemies' modules? How does one do that? The training mission only seems to show taking an enemy out with lasers then using beams on a shielded ship. The original Elite was just point and shoot - this game feels so overly complex at times!

When you target a ship, new tab with their subsystems opens in the left panel. There you can select and target a specific module so it's easier to destroy. You can also bind buttons for cycling between.
