Sorting and Managing Bookmarks.

When I first started playing it was immediately apparent that I would need to rely heavily on bookmarks in the galactic map to navigate and to keep track of places I frequent, plan to visit, have left ships and equipment or have found things to do. When I noticed that the bookmarks were being saved and listed alphabetically, and that there was no obvious way to manage or categorize the list, it seemed I would have to get creative to keep it manageable as the list grows. Currently I am grouping my bookmarks by naming them with tags like "AAA" or "1A, 1B, 1C". I'm sure everyone has their own way to manage the list. Its a pretty simple thing to do, except it does take some screwing around if you want to do things like move a group of bookmarks lower or higher in the list to reflect the frequency with which you expect to use them.

I'm not sure if there is a limit to the maximum amount of bookmarks one can save, but I would imagine it should be pretty high if there is. I would love to see a little more functionality and customization in the bookmarks list to make it more user-friendly. If the list were saved in order of creation by default, and we could move bookmarks up or down in the list at will and have their positions saved it would make things slightly easier. The ability to create categories or sub-sections to group bookmarks together would make it more convenient still.
If an overhaul is on the cards tho, there is so much more that could be done. The icons that currently appear next to bookmarks as a visual representation of the target destination (a little station, system, planet etc) seem pretty useless to me as they are. If we could select our choice of icons/symbols from a list for each bookmark when creating or editing them, they could be used to help manage the list and better distinguish groups or specific bookmarks.
Colours could also be used to further personalize the list and perhaps make it more aesthetically pleasing and inviting. As it is now the grey and white "A-Z wall of places" has kind of a white pages feel to it. An option to select from a few different colours could be applied to bookmarks or sub-categories, either to the text or the background of the bookmarks, or it could apply to the icon or the colour could just appear next to bookmarks as a tag.

If any of that sounds reasonable, feel free to run with it :)

I can't remember the exact cap on bookmarks, but it's like 100 or 123 or something like that if I recall (I'm sure someone will pipe in with the exact number). I've maxed it out in the past and had to go through everything and purge all the stuff I could. The bonus of using EDDiscovery is I can just make notes and book mark things in there now instead.

Yes it's been talked about a lot in the past about having more functionality for the bookmarks other than just being able to name them (which will then re-order them by name automatically, which iwe have presently). But so far it's just not on ED's priority list at all, despite people asking for changes well over 2 years+ ago...
