Sorting Animals By the Season

I think for my next zoo, I'm going to make a zoo with 4 distinct areas representing the seasons. This will probably be sandbox but may end up being Franchise, I'm not sure.

What animals would you put in for each season? Starting out with the below and will add more as I think of them and other suggestions. Of course some would work well in several seasons and I'l put those in italics.

Winter (since it's the season we're in now, at least in the Northern Hemisphere)
Arctic Fox
Arctic Wolf
Polar Bear
Snow Leopard
Reindeer
King Penguin
Dall Sheep
Moose
Siberian Tiger

Spring (This one's the hardest for me to pick animals for)
Capybara
Fallow Deer
Butterflies
Grizzly Bear
Asian Small Clawed Otter
Indian Peafowl
Greater Flamingo
Common Ostrich
Red Crowned Crane
Wombat
Red Necked Wallaby
North American Beaver
Badger
Red Panda

Summer
West African Lion
Prairie Dog
Bactrian Camel
Meerkat
Fennec Fox
Sea Lion
Warthog
Red Kangaroo
Emu
Cougar
Reticulated Giraffe
Indian Elephant
African Elephant

Fall/Autumn
Raccoon
Red Fox
Red Deer
Timber Wolf
Striped Skunk
Fruit Bat
Bengal Tiger (due to the colors)
Platypus
Moose
Badger
Red Panda
Siberian Tiger
Cougar
Reticulated Giraffe
Indian Elephant
African Elephant

I’d say add the Striped Skunk and Fruit Bats to autumn - two of the most Halloween animals we have in game, can’t miss them out!!!
I’d also not have the Bactrian Camel in summer, since they are less associated with warm climates that the Dromedary.

Thank you, I think the Skunk and Fruit Bats are a great idea for Fall/Autumn. I'm going to leave the Bactrian Camel in the summer though, even though it's not associated with the desert specifically, it's a stand in for the Dromedary which is definitely a desert animal.

i would put some birds like the peafowl or flamingo in the spring area, mainly because they are strongly associated, thanks to the fact that birds reproduce and have they offspring during spring, plus peafowl really match with the idea of a spring area.

also the summer area need some tropical species, mainly because the summer in the southern hemisphere is very wet.

Good choices! I'll think on the tropical species for summer. It may end up I don't include them, in case I'm going for a seasonal by Northern Hemipshere set up. Definitely the birds though for spring for sure

I feel like some oceanian animals would be coll her cause you haven't mentioned many. Red kangaroo and Emu would work well for summer

Wombat and wallaby would be goo spring picks

And platypus would be cool for autumn

Mabey you could even put a red kangaroo in the winter area to make a joke about how it's summer in the southern hemisphere lol.

Those are all good ideas. I'll probably skip the Kangaroo/Winter connection though, but I definitely get the joke. Maybe I can do a reverse-hemisphere zoo at some point, definitely get the first one done first lol

Editing as an aside. I really need to figure out where to put two iconic animals - the Elephants and Giraffes. I think Giraffes would be good for summer and maybe fall (due to animal coloration) but I'm really not sure about the Elephants.

Cant find much really for seasons for elephants, only thing is best African elephant spotting in the wild can be the dry season in the summer or autumn. Same goes for giraffes, basically summer animals since they are better known for congregations in the summer heat

That's what I was sort of leaning to with the Elephants too....if they weren't an absolute iconic animal I'd probably leave them out, but c'mon, it's elephants. I'll put the two elephants and the giraffe in both Summer/Autumn. Thank you :)

You could always do indian elephanys instead which would fit well in a tropical style spring area.

I was just thinking this morning that I'd like to do a pair of arctic fox exhibits in my current zoo. One with the standard coat in a habitat designed with a wintry look, and another full of blue morphs in a more summery looking setup. The idea was to showcase the species' coat changing with both appearing simultaneously (although in real life, this would only work in the winter). Anyway, I think the species can pull double duty because of its two coats.

If you want to add a wildcard fifth section: Monsoon ;)

But really, here in India and much of Southeast Asia (...and I think other parts of the tropics?), the most noticeable seasonal change is the arrival of the monsoon. India has basically three seasons for the most part: hot dry summer, monsoon, and cool "winter".

Monsoon species would include peafowl (famous for dancing in the rain), water buffalo (absolute icon of the season), small-clawed otter, Indian elephant, Indian rhino, pretty much all the species found in India except the Himalayan ones and caracal/hyena/flamingo. I'd guess a lot of SE Asians would fit too, particularly the proboscis monkey and tapir for aquatic association. Saltwater crocs might be associated with the monsoon in Australia, if I'm not mistaken? And then I don't know if it's called a monsoon in South America, but their rainy season creates the flooded forest where you can have giant otter, dwarf caiman, etc.
