Sothis A5 missing fix?

So this problem has been around for at least a year, and I’ve seen players on the ED subreddit saying “FDev is aware of it”: some players find that Sothis A5 is simply gone from both the navigation list and system map, and is Unexplored and unscannable up close.

Just wondering if this is ever going to be fixed, or…? Because the fact that one of the more profitable activities is problematic for some players (myself for at least a year), the problem is known, and hasn’t been fixed in all this time is a little sus.

I kid, of course (mostly). But yeah. I took a very long break from the game, and this pretty significant, server-side bug is still a thing. And it has to be server-side, because I’ve reinstalled not only the game, but my entire OS since my last time playing — actually, I’m using a whole new client: Odyssey.

And it’s not just me, of course. Did some googling and found others suffering from the same or similar problems (e.g. just missing the POI, but not the whole planet).

In fact, here. Here’s my post to Reddit about the problem from a year ago: Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/mi46ej/sothis_a5_has_disappeared_from_my_maplist/

And another player with the same problem, from Jan ‘22 (looks to be on Xbox): Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/s0w6ec/where_is_sothis_a_5/

So you can't re-FSS it? Weird.

Maybe it's time to give up the grind and play the game instead :)
No. It’s already scanned. The system is 100% scanned in FSS, but it reads as Unexplored in supercruise. More importantly, it is not listed in the navigation pane, and there is a blank spot where it should be in the system map.

And I’ve been playing since beta. The first grinding I did was an A<>B trade route because there was literally nothing else worth a decent amount of money. It took weeks to afford an Anaconda - and even then, there were people like you. “Don’t grind, just play the game.” That IS playing the game. One way, anyway. Maybe not your way, but no one is suggesting you do it. Why do people insist on telling others how to enjoy themselves?

I’ll grind if I want to, thanks. Just like I do everything else in the game if and when I want to - when it works like it’s supposed to.

I'll never understand this statement within a sandbox game.
And I the opposite. I mean, sandbox is just exactly the type of game where you play the game. <insert any wow type mmo here> is the type of game where people grind, better get that level 9000 dwarfmagelizardwoman during your friday night galore.
Elite is not that game. Ofcourse, I won't tell anyone how to play their game, but socalled grinding is definately not the way to play it in my opinion. The layout is there, colour it as you please

MDH

to OP. I've not been to Sothis since 2015 or something. But have on a very rare occation had this elsewhere (like 2 times). Can't remember where right now.. Strange FDev is aware and nothing gets done. Well, stranger things has happend I guess :D
Anyway.... I'm not much help am I. Better get back to work

Elite is not that game.
  • Ships locked behind ranks
  • Materials for equipment
  • Materials for SLFs
  • Systems locked behind ranks/tasks
  • Modules locked behind ranks and merits
  • Ranks walled off by X number of actions (trade, exploration, combat)
  • Engineers locked behind activities

I beg to differ.

Sure "you don't need any of it" and counter argument to that is "well you don't need to play the game either".
Elite is a sandbox that tries to be an mmo by taking it's worst aspects.
Certain parts of the game are simply locked behind grind. If the player wants to engage with that part of the game, often they need to do things repeatedly in order to gain access to it, aka grind. Which, going back to my original post, I don't understand when someone says "just don't do it" when it's clearly necessary in order to engage with that part of the game.

What happens if you scan the NavBeacon?

What happens if you scan the NavBeacon?
Nothing. The system does not update, as it is already 100% explored and I have previously scanned the beacon.

There’s nothing to be done about this on my end. I’ve done everything I can both in-game and from my system (e.g. reinstall). It’s simply bugged, and I was curious as to whether FDev was even considering fixing it or not.

Normally I’d assume something like, “Of course…” - but stumbling upon the exact same significant bug that I ran into a year ago destroyed that mentality. Then I start wondering why it hasn’t been addressed in all this time, and I start thinking things like, “Well, it’s always been the highest priority for FDev to make sure players aren’t making money too fast (e.g. nerfing mission stacking in weeks and not fixing pirate massacre missions in months (ships in wings didn’t count)), so maybe fixing Sothis A5 is not a concern for them.”

You've tried in solo mode? Maybe it's some hiccup with the servers if there is lots of traffic.
I hadn’t until you asked (I may have a year ago, don’t remember). I normally play in a private group (the original mobius, usually appearing about as empty as Solo), so I didn’t think it’d be a load issue.

But, I just tried it. No difference in any play mode (just tried both Open and Solo).

The strangest thing to me is that the body is actually missing from the system view. While sitting in Robigo, I can look at Sothis’ system map. The planets are all kinda blank, but where A5 should be, there is just nothing. It’s an empty space where the planet should be. The lines that “connect” the bodies in the system view connect to a void. But! That void can be clicked on and routed to. It just has to be done from the system map because it doesn’t appear in the nav list in the left panel in the cockpit, even when it’s been targeted in the system map.

I’m not allowing myself to think this is some kind of unintentional shadow nerf (“Oh, it’s broken? Sure, sure, we’ll fix it… /side-eye”), but it’s not easy. Hearing from FDev on the issue would make that a lot easier (while their silence makes it that much more difficult).

Weird, and the Nav beacon doesn't yield results either?

There are literally dozens (if not hundreds) of people not having the same issue so it's obviously not something fdev have implemented.

As I mentioned earlier, nope. Scanning the nav beacon does nothing, because I’ve already scanned it and the entire system. The planet remains missing from the nav list and system map.

I’m aware. I’m only kidding when I say I might think it’s something they added intentionally.

But it’s been affecting me for more than a year, and I know I’m not the only one. One would think, if it were something specific to me and some others, they’d be able to look at my player/account data, compare it to the unaffected, and determine what’s bugged fairly easily. Or approaching me/an affected user for further debugging steps. But they haven’t. In an entire year, at least.

At some point, it doesn’t matter if they added it themselves. They’re allowing the bug to exist, which isn’t much better.

The only reason I’m not more up-in-arms about this is because I can work around it. I can still select the planet/blank space in the system map, so I can still fly to the planet and scan the necessary POI once I’m close enough to select and drop into it. So it’s not a, “I need it fixed now!” issue, but a year is a long time.

I'm shocked - shocked - I tell you no one did this before...

On PC there are graphics files that need clearing or the System map malfunctions and classes of planets suns and moons will not render due to these files needing replacing
Another user posted that the stars/suns had been removed from system maps after the thargoid update 13 but it was just these PC files that needed fixing on reboot...
They deleted those files and the Stars/suns returned to system map.next reboot...
May be theres a File for that class of planet that needs refreshing on reboot..

So have you filed a support ticket, since it's an issue affecting your account?
Huh. I thought I did? I definitely went to open a ticket and filled the whole thing out. Pretty sure I submitted it - but I don't have an open ticket. However, going in and looking at my ticket list, I find the response from FDev from a year ago:

"We have been made aware of this issue previously and our development team has been tracking the issue and making progress resolving this. Unfortunately, there is currently no workaround for now."

It's marked as "solved". So unless they've come up with some kind of workaround in the past year since they obviously haven't fixed it, I'm just SOL. It's just not a priority for them, at all. Why not? My theory: because, as we all know, FDev hates it when players actually make progress because those players might actually collect all the ships and engineering and all that and find that there is very little to do on the other side of success other than fly around and look at the pretty stuff. This knowledge drives the belief that they have to keep players in the grind loop in order to retain them. I'm not even going to go on a rant explaining why and how this is messed up and has kneecapped the game from day one, but it is and has.

Clean Windows install. Clean game install. It's not me. It's FDev not fixing things that potentially slow players down. The only other thing it could possibly be is incompetence, but I'm trying to give them some benefit of the doubt. Though we are talking about the team that painted (coded) themselves into such a tight corner that they apparently can't even add HUD color selection to the game. It has to be modded in.
