Sothis/Ceos

Thanks for the additional tips guys. Not sure whether I'm down with the logging in and out to generate missions, but ultimately it's my conscience which would have to do the math. Then, I'm the guy who gathers all the wood I can find in Fallout 4, builds 200 fenceposts then scraps them again to do another 100, then 50 etc. etc. to get my XP up...

I ventured out to Sothis / Ceos after reading advice on the forums. However, I guess something had changed as, Rank grind-wise, it was far worse than the location I'd found myself. However, if you're also looking to make some profit, make sure you go to Sothis Mining (Outpost) as, once I'd gained some rep, I was taking Cargo missions to Ceos worth 3 - 9 million credits. Sure, there weren't as many pure rep (Courier / Data) missions, but I was making good money - more money than I was spending on bribes...erm, Donations, so it worked out fairly well.

Ultimately though, I did the bulk of my Rank grind elsewhere. However, I guess if you did do the logging thing to take more missions then Sothis/Ceos would still be fine.

Sothis/Ceos stopped being a viable Fed rank grind when 3 of the fed factions got booted. With only 1 Fed faction for the 2 systems, the grind is long and slow. Niu Hsing is where I went to finish off my rank grind, has 5 or 6 Fed factions and has pretty varied missions offerings. I did the last 4 ranks there in just about a week of casual play.

Yeah, through poor timing on my part and many people advising based on old information, Sothis / Ceos was nerf'd from a pure Rank grind perspective before I even arrived. However, if you're in a Medium ship (Ideally Python) and want to make some decent money too, it's still worth a visit.

I did wonder why people raved about Sothis / Ceos so much, when I arrived to only see one fed-aligned faction - vs. three and four respectively at my prior grind location - I was quite disappointed. Still, I made some decent money, gained a rank or two, before moving on to other things.

Sothis/Ceos has really good paying sightseeing missions, easily the best cr/hr for the 2 systems. However, you need to take passenger modules with you because they are not available out there.

Sopthis/Ceos is still good place for rank grind, but only when in Boom state . Boom data delivery missions all day .

Go to Barnard's Star, Boston Base. Most of the factions there are Fed affiliated and it's the heart of Fed space. I grinded my last 3 ranks in 4 days there

I've been doing a bit more reading up on Sothis/Ceos both in the old posts on here and at Reddit. Seems the prospects come and go but the big money seems to be in hauling bulk cargo between the location and the Bubble, rather than just between the two systems. Not going to do much of that in a Cobra. So I'll probably grind the courier missions for another day or two then head back in to Moros then Barnard's or Ross 154. Head back out there when I can afford a bigger ship, presumably a Type 6 or Type 7.

One of the things I'm really coming to like about this game is the strategic choices you can make and the length and breadth of wisdom that can be found here and on Reddit. And other than the training missions, I've yet to fire a single "pew pew" in anger.

I converted my passenger cabin in the Cobra for additional freight space.

Noted last night that easy missions from the Fed aligned corporation seemed to have dried up. Now really torn between heading back to the Bubble or sticking around a bit longer as there is still good money to be made - on my final run last night I had 20 missions stacked from Sothis which, with bonuses and commodities, netted me around 800k! But in an hour and a bit of playing my Fed rep only advanced by 2%. Was toying with the idea of buying a small freighter T6 so I can do some of the heavier cargo/pax jobs but put off by the fact my Cobra will be stuck out in the boonies if I use the freighter to head home. (Unless there is a way to order it to fly/ferry on its own to your new location). Maybe I'll just sell the Cobra and buy a new one later when I have more use for a combat capable ship.

If its Fed rank you are after, head to HIP 72797 Clerk Plant. Bring lots of money. I went from 1st Leautenant to Rear Admiral in a day. Cost me 300M in donations.

One Smeaton passenger haul in a cutter pays for that.

Good luck. :)

How high of a rank do you need to be in order for that to be viable, and are you just having to board flip a ton?

I've been doing the Sothis/Ceos thing....wrong. The whole time. Would love an substitute, but my options are either board flipping until Federation Unite fills my log book, or...well, do I need to be up to allies with HIP 72797 in order to see the benefit?

It's more about having several Fed minor factions to get missions from. The quicker you can fill your mission box with 20 faction missions, the faster you get rank. Sothis/Ceos just has 1, which makes it very slow going. I moved to Niu Hsing which had 4 or 5 Fed factions all offering missions to the same destination stations, so I was able to grind out the 4 ranks I needed in about a week of casual play.

When you increase your friend status, more missions will be available at higher payouts, but until then, having a lot of fed factions in the same place makes it easier to fill your mission limit.

From memory, I think theres 4 factions and theyre all Fed. They each spawn 4 or more donation missions per flip. I was already Elite so that may have helped. I have no aversion to board flipping but I understand if others do. Personally I dont mind. There are other data missions too. I would often have 15 to 20 donation missions per board. A 250k, a 500k, a 750k and a 1M. Per faction. Sometimes 4 x 1M per faction. Like I said it cost me between 200-300M credits and after that I got the corvette that i never really wanted anyways, but hey ho. Ive got one. Meh. I'll stick to my AspX or my Conda. But I rarely shoot even the npc.

I'm with you on this. I did a lot of board swapping for 2 years. I regretted it so much, a few months ago I wiped my character and started again.

I had the same thing in FO4 after consoling in some metal to scum create statues for XP. Didn't seem right. Went straight to the Institute, shot Shaun in the face and finished up ASAP. Fenceposts were a different matter as that was just wood found or scrapped in game. So ATM I'm quite resolute that I'll take whatever missions are on offer in Solo Play but hopefully if I can sort out a bigger/better ship (I hate the T6) will get more lucrative work.

You may have seen this by now but there is such an option in the Shipyard of the Station your in, look for the last tab on the right to select your ship and have it delivered to the Station you're in. Its costs depend on the distance if its a really long way it might be not worth it, but with Modules cost and time to recreate its pretty fair..
