Sould the F-D-L be recalled?

Should the Fer-de-Lance be recalled to fit it with a new styled canopy that eliminates the (obscuring) cross bar and the over-heating problem when fuel scooping?

I think the FdL should be recalled completely, and no refunds given to commanders who own one. Then get some popcorn and watch the meltdown on the forums :D

Only kidding.

Maybe you are using a Class 4 scoop, so you are done scooping before the heat becomes a problem. Try it with a Class 2 fuel scoop...

If you keep enoug distance to the sun, you can basically sit still (at 30km/s) with most/all other ships almost forever, without overheating. This is impossible with the FdL. Using a class 2 scoop, it is impossible to fill the fuel tank in one go.

Impossible eh?

Challenge accepted!

Edit: Yeah, why do you just post stuff that you clearly haven't even tried?

Arrived at the star with a quarter of a tank left, got into position, throttle at zero, temperature 60 Degrees, Fuel flow 12.21. 16 minutes later, temperature 60 degrees, fuel flow 13.91, fuel tank full.

He should have added within reasonable timeframe as a qualifier lol.

At any rate I scorched mine every 2nd star I scooped going back and forth from Lugh to Leesti during the conflict.

If you keep enough distance to the sun, you can basically sit still (at 30km/s) with most/all other ships almost forever, without overheating. This is impossible with the FdL. Using a class 2 scoop, it is impossible to fill the fuel tank in one go. This makes travelling with the FdL annoyingly tedious. As if the jump range, fuel tank size and lack of internal compartments weren't bad enough already.

I am indeed using a class 4. I drop to 30KM/s when the fuel flow gets to ~100. It generally evens out at 130 - 140 with heat at 62%. It does fill the tank quickly, but on many, many occasions, I've bobbed into the galaxy map or system map for minutes at a time, or even gone to make a coffee, and when I return, I'm still at 62% heat. This never wavers. I can stay there for half an hour and not see it increase above 62% heat :)

Since the FDL likely operates at >100% Power in full gear - it has the same problems as all other Ships have :

If you stuff it with power-hungry equipment that tops-off its Power Plant capabilities, your Fuel Scooping performance will be degraded due to the lower Temperature Delta the Engine can still safely cool away.

Solution for any Ship :
- place yourself above, aiming onto or below the Sun at 30km/sec
- try disabling all Weapons, even Shield or Shield Boosters doing the exact same and compare temperatures & scooping rate available at 65% heat :D

You'll see it makes a rather drastic difference.
If you're used to "performance scopping" (circle the Sun at higher speeds to increase scooping rate), you're naturally more prone to overheat your ship (although it can be done if you find the "sweet spot" and are able to maintain that).

This.

It's not the ship, it's the modules you use.

Indeed, this is why I use a better class scoop, but I just left it going and got on with some other stuff.

However, he wasn't complaining about time, he was quite clear that it could not be done due to overheating, which is absolute nonsense

Edit: Ship still in same orbit, temperature still 60 degrees. I could clearly leave it here all day, but I'm bored now.
