So I saw this mission. Source 1917 gold for 50mil reward. So I cheered and took it. My cutter would have to make a few trips and I will be RICH!!!!!!

So now I come to find out that I go out and source that gold and found a station. Selling for 48.077 a ton. So I bought the gold and trucked it back to the station. At first I did not pay attention, but then I saw I pay a pretty bit for that gold and wondered if I would see any of that investment back. It turns out that is a NO

I did finish the mission.

1917 tons of gold bought for 94,080,609
Reward is 50mill

Net LOSS = 44,080,609

Guess i won't be so quick to pick up those anymore.

Anybody else noticed this?

If you laser mined the gold, which is pretty easy but time consuming, in a Platinum Hotspot in a Matallic Ring and then took the mission, you'd have made the 50 Mil, but could probably have sold the mined Gold for more...

IE: 1917 tons of gold * galactic average sell price 48,327 cr = 92,642,859​

Or, if you bought the gold cheap somewhere... 🤷‍♂️

But yes, knowing what you are getting into is half the battle...

Wing delivery missions typically pay better than source/return, just for this reason...just be aware that someone will be after you and you'll need to shake them along the way...

Yeah ... So I should have been more aware on why this is a wing mission. Everybody gets the 50mil for their share of help. Now I got burned thinking I can do it by myself.

O well... Another day, another "dollar" ... Better go kill an Orthrus .. lol

Always worth keeping a calculator handy for wing missions. I picked up a wing mission for gold other day; 288 gold for 48 million. Just make sure your reputation with the mission giver is friendly or allied. Also, I think that all mission rewards (at least for passenger/delivery missions) are arbitrarily capped at 50 million credits, for some exotic reason.

Don't give up on wing missions, just be a bit more choosy and get your rep up with the mission giver.

Not giving up on wing missions no ... Did a hell of a lot with the thargoid war. I guess that 50mil was the bling-bling in my eyes. That wasn't smart of me right there.
Good thing I don't have to care on this loss though. Just figuring this out was fun in itself.
