Space debris

Watching some of the videos there seems to be a huge amount of space debris flying at your face. Is there a way to turn that off? It will be immersion breaking for me. It's unrealistic because 1) there just isn't that much debris in space thankfully because 2) if there was you'd be dead in short order.

You might be right in deep space but in an asteroid belt, with all the ships flying around and exploding and shooting at asteroids there might indeed be loads of stuff floating around between them. There is a lot of stuff in this game that is unrealistic, I don't think the dust is high on the agenda.

It has been subject of complains, and in January Mike Evans said he would favor slider to change amount of debris flying towards you. So they aware about this.

The dust is there so players can tell which way they are going, unfortunately there is already a thread from some guys who can't tell if they are going forwards or backwards despite the dust streaks and the reversing speed indicator in the cockpit.

I seriously doubt FD will turn the dust off if some of the less observant players are already confused.

I thought that those people were complaining about those white streaks that appear once you are travelling at speed, not the bits of debris that you can more clearly see when you are, or near, stationary. We might be talking about different things.

Those white streaks are space dust. IMO the game looks much better without it. Just put an option in the graphics menu to tun it on/off.

Completely agree. Though it does seem to help to know which direction your going with FA off. But it seems that there is a UI in game that already does that. Or atleast turn it down alot more. It really is kinda unsightly to me. Especially when your going sideways. IT stands out ALOT.

I don't see what all the fuss is about it plus even mark Evans said he would favor putting in a slider to change amount of debris flying towards you in the options so surely that would solve it right

Are you talking about the "space dust" OP? If so, it's absolutely vital for having a feel for the ship's movement. I think it's just about perfect, personally.

There's two things.

1. The white streaks that appear to help show direction and speed when your ship moves.
2. The tiny brown bits of rock flying past you everywhere.

I believe OP is referring to the latter. The slider sounds like a good solution.

Cool. Like the OP i've been finding it a bit 'over done' while watching the alpha video's. In Frontier and FFE you could control if they were on/off, which should be an option in the ED, a slider (to control size/visibility etc) would be even better.

For me it is the 'the white streaks' that i'm finding distracting (and would like to tone down in a menu option) the most, as they are constant. I'd like to be able to control the brown rock debris also though. Player options are good.

If there is a cursor to adjust the density, it will be perfect. I would not want that my spaceship give me the impression of flying with a vacuum cleaner

What about space hopper sized asteroids, are they in game? At full speed they should at least take out the shields. Can see asteroids on radar? As you wouldnt visually see small ones looking out ahead of you when going fast.

I was referring to the latter primarily, but I'm not really that crazy about the dust either and would prefer instrumentation to know which direction my momentum is taking me. If there's a slider that's great - hopefully if it's all the way in one direction it turns it completely off. I could live with the dust and consider it a HUD overlay or something, but I really don't like the rocks everywhere. If you were mining or something I could see it but otherwise no.
