Space Dementia is setting in!

Should I be worried?

I recently set off in my longest voyage to date, to Sag A!
In my Python. Not the best choice, but my Anaconda turns too slowly, and I barely made it to Barnard's Loop and back before going mad.
And my Asp I couldn't outfit in a manner I found comfortable... I also never use my Python, so now I am. Lol
So I have my explorer Python, 23ly jump range, all the exploration tools I need, plus good shields.

So far, I've only gone about 1500ly from Sol, maybe more.
Yet after a short 500ly 'sprint' I did today while at work, I was beginning to lose my mind.
Every system felt like the last, same yellow orange star, same size... Over and over.... I have no idea how far I even went...
The general glitches don't help either. Planets following me in to hyperspace, lights going out for no reason. Noises.....
Urgh!

I've had to actually do some work now (so I'm on here instead), so I had to stop.
But I've decided to break up my journey in to segments, after deciding sprinting is too mind numbingly boring!
My new anti-space dementia routing is as follows;
Select a random star in the general direct you want to go, between 500-1000ly away.
Sprint, until you either;
A) Reach the Waypoint
B) Find something unusual

In either case, stop and explore the area, and a few nearby systems.
Land somewhere with a good view.
Drive around, gather things.
(I've already found 2 escape pods, which I'm going to carry with me, so i have company.... My new friends....)
Take off, and set course for another 500-1000ly, and repeat.

What do you guys do to delay the onset of space dementia? Lol

I don't care about "spacemadness"; i simply press "J" and jump to the next system :)
But your mileage may vary... :)

PS:
Soyou run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racingaround to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in arelative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one daycloser to death."

On my way back from Beagle point some 65,400 ly as the crow flys, which in real terms will be about 75,000ly ride home...

How I stop myself going mad is choose a destination, head towards it in 1,000 ly chunks to a interesting area.

I'm currently heading to 2,500 ly above the galactic plain for some nice views before dipping down in a straight line for base some 29,000ly away

Sometimes, make your targets shorter... A quick 100ly or so to an interesting A or B star maybe?... Do this a few times and you'll have made up your 500.
Look for stars or nebulas on your galaxy map to aim for, they may take you off your route, but they'll give you more interesting stuff to explore....
I found that the true insanity starts on the way back, so desperate was I to return.... That's when I made all my scooping and afmu mistakes etc...
The first couple of times I set off for SagA I made it less than half way, but it's worth getting there. It was like my first million plus smuggling run or first Anaconda scalp....

I'm no expert btw....

Voice attack and good music saved me from Space Madness when I went to/from Sag. A. Although, if you get into the groove and have the right mind-set - it can be quite a chillout experience...

I can't even imagine flying that far. I honestly do not know how you guys do it!

My theory is that if I can make it to Sag A and back in my Python, I can no longer complain about travelling 500ly in my FDL.

I'm currently 250ly below the galactic plain at the moment, mostly because it's mostly unexplored here, which is nice.
Not that I'm stopping much to check. Lol

I did find the largest star system I've ever seen outside of the bubble a few 100ly back.
A Trinary System roughly 550,000ls across!
Annoyingly, all of the interesting planets where in orbit around the distant star(s), so I just scanned the main star and left. Lol
I wasn't the first one either, so I assume the other guy thought the same as me. Lol

I'm also diving lower towards the nearest nebulae on route soonish. That's some 2000ly away yet though.

I forgot :)

Kidding aside ... Delay it? I embrace it

Being in a group of excellent people made all the difference. Knowing that after this stint you'll be meeting up with a selection of them to clown around on WPs breaks the monotony.

When I went to Sag A alone it seemed longer than when I went to Beagle Point with these guys.

It's not too late to go back and get an Asp. In fact, once you get back, you could give up on the idea and do some Robigo runs or bounty hunting instead - better than going nuts in deep space!

I was out for two months not so long ago. I did more or less what you have ended up doing. I had a general destination in mind, never got there though. Each night I would have a look at the gal map and choose where to go but if anything came up of interest while scanning I would go and have a look, land etc...

I also made a point of finding a landing spot if I needed a drink, food or even a loo break due to my AI not being the most reliable auto pilot (and owning cats!).

The Entire Radiohead/Beatles/Nirvana/Queens of the stone age/Mogwai back catalogue. Also setting targets, I'd aim for nebulae enroute to the core, a lakon cockpit always helps (although I love the Pythons bridge) I did it in a T9, 1000LY hops goes very quickly with the right music in the background.

One of my favourite Hunter S Thompson quotes -

“Music has always been a matter of Energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio.”

Lol, if I turn back nkw, I won't come out again.

Oh.... And football matches.... I managed to do a large proportion of the trip listening to the football....
I don't like football. But I did try and watch a movie on my laptop. Ended up just watching the movie. Lol

I have a cat too. I usually strategically place things nearby that she'll want to sit on or in, instead of my PCs keyboard.
Works 99% of the time. Boxes are the best. My laptop keyboard is second best. But sometimes she still wants to sit on my PC keyboard. Lol

I have the box from my new case by my desk... Now when I play I have a cat starting at me all wide eyed in a dark box just willing me to stick a hand in there! :D

I am half way back to civilization after a trip to Sag* A, what I did on the way out was followed the distant worlds waypoints. They are about 3000ly apart and stop at interesting places which breaks up the trip. I also switched to a second account now and then to do something else for a couple of nights after making it to a waypoint second account now has a A-rated eagle. Of course I used my explorer asp which has a 34ly jump and about 6 jumps between needing to refuel. I probably started the trip over a month ago.

I'm about 9K out at the moment and that's exactly what I've been doing. I didn't have a specific destination in mind really, just a direction, so headed out to the ridiculously bright V945 Scorpii star cluster first because it's such an obvious destination when you look at the galmap, then ended up visiting the Cat's Paw and Eagle nebulae and I'm now working my way 'left' around the galactic arm.

The last couple of nights have been the first time I've really felt something like an explorer instead of a tourist; last night I finally found my first newly discovered earth-like world, jumped to my first system with a neutron star as the main and jumped a 2,000 light year burst without once entering a system that had previously been discovered. I also still have all my modules at 100% and haven't even powered up my AMFUs yet or had to pop any heat sinks, despite having jumped into quite a few hideously close binaries. I can't believe my luck to be honest, although there's no way it's going to last.

If I'm getting antsy about jumping into 30 M class stars in succession, I just turn them off in the galmap when route planning, leave O and B on plus all the 'exotics' and have a look for something in the direction that I want to go, maybe do a smaller hop if I see a few interesting looking stars nearby, then do detailed scans on a whole system if it looks like the planets may be interesting and park up for a drive.

I have no idea how long I'm going to stay out for or where I'll eventually end up; a really cool CG or further developments in the barnacle storyline could see me sprint back but I may stay out until 2.1 drops, just going to take each day as it comes.

Lol well, something seems off to me.
If I remember correctly, when I set off from the bubble, not too far from Sol (100ly or so), Sag A was 22,000ly away...

I'm now 4500ly from Sol...
And Sag A is still 21,000ly away!
Knowing me, I've been traveling in the wrong direction for ages.

Unless I'm remembering wrong the Sol to Sag A distance wrong! Which is also likely.

Either way, I'm almost quarter(or a fifth!) of the way!

Got some extra time tomorrow so I might be able to cover another 2000-3000ly if I don't stop too much.
Not finding anything terribly exciting from initial scans right now anyway.
No close binarys, no huge landable planets, no planets really close together or close to the star.
