Space dredger/generation ships etc etc.

Much like the 1st game (or not as it turned out) will there be any incredibly rare ships or items in the game to come accross

whilst it turnout out to be fake, I spent hrs searching the outer reaches of space for a generation ship, and dreamed of space dredgers.


I know this would not be on launch as it would be a lot of work for something which many would never see but the notion of searching for somthing really rare interests me, and would be the ultimate golden goose to encourage explorers, esp if they perhaps sold some special unique weapon, one which was a little better or even simply looked unique from anything else in game (but of course could not be replaced if your ship was then destroyed)

The game is launching with, I believe, what amounts to 10+ works of fiction tied to it, some of the things in those books may get into the game, some others may not. Either way, trying to find all the stuff mentioned in the lore should keep explorers occupied for a while.

indeed, I love oolite, and it is great that they are now in the game, but as you say, there are loads, and infact (way) too many of them imo.

with that oxp they are no longer a thing of legend but just another ship in the game.

It has been said in several places that the fiction will contain hints, clues and useful information for game players.

I think the impact of more unique vessels like Gen Ships will be increased if players can have some interaction with them.

Imagine coming across a Gen Ship and an automated pilot contacts you seeking some information or resource to continue it's journey. In effect a mission with who knows what implications.

Kate Russell's book takes place around a planet called Slough, which was settled by generation ships. In the book, they remain in orbit and are called the Slough Observers.

Frontier have said they'll work with authors to get stuff from the books into the game, though I'm not aware of anything specifically about this point.

In Oolite or it's link was one of the few OXP's I've tired to download and found the link lead me nowhere and there were a few of those dead links.

If I have used that OXP, then I have never encountered one, but I have found Dredgers and docked with them after some fancy flying.
