Space heroes: How do I prepare for colonization era? Stake out, stock up?

Wait and see.

I expect a major let down, so not preparing at all. I will play the beta soley to reserve me a spot short from the bubble.

It's probably misconceived, given the amount of uncertainty, but I'm having occasional fun scanning uninhabited systems around the edges of the bubble (and sometimes in the middle if I honk something that looks interesting in passing) and taking notes for making an informed choice when that becomes possible.

Hi :)
Wait and see.

I expect a major let down, so not preparing at all. I will play the beta soley to reserve me a spot short from the bubble.

While I previously thought a player would have several if not more options where one could start the Colonisation process I'm not too sure now. It might be limited as to what might be offered depending on what system the player is in when the option is offered. It could be just the one, especially if there isn't much to choose from as regards uninhabited systems near to where you're offered the initial choice of this feature. We know we're going to be limited to how far from an inhabited system (or vise versa) we can start Colonising, so that's going to be one of the known limiting factors, at least at the start, and we don't know (well, apart from an arbitrary figure that's not set in stone at the moment) what the maximum distance will be anyway.
At the moment as far as information goes there's no harm in 'scouting out' systems to ascertain what you may think would be good systems for this, (I've already done this myself a few weeks ago) but until we have more information how the bones of the first contact works in detail we're just guessing...(so I've stopped! ;) )

We could have several uninhabited systems to choose from connected to that 'first contact', but there again as I've said, it might only be the one and you either have the choice of accepting that one or decline the offer, perhaps in that case you'd need to move to another system nearby or one at a different location, for example a few dozen systems further away and hope you're contacted again at some point.

I don't think the player is going to have that many choices, but it would be more interesting if we were offered one out of maybe (just a ball park figure here) a few dozen? 🤷‍♂️
For all we know the figure of 'positive hits' or favourable uninhabited system types around each inhabited system has already been programmed in, so in that case we might be shoehorned in to those systems...I'm obviously just guessing at present.
So I also generally agree with huehnerfaust....we'll just have to wait, at least until the next livestream. :)

No! No time to wait and see! Some meditation techniques to tolerate for:
  • Jumps times.
  • FC jumps. And those bartenders will continue to make troubles for sure.
  • Commodities getting stuck on FC, on Ships etc.

Hi :)
Find yourself self a comfy spot a supply of popcorn and wait for the drama to begin...🍿
...I'm sure we'll All have loads of fun when Colonisation's released! 😏
Seriously, it's going to be very interesting (Well I personally think so), especially as it's described as a 'live' Beta?...I wonder how much it will affect a players game who doesn't partake in the Colonisation feature, I mean whether the introduced programming might affect the game as a whole (bugs etc.).
Obviously it shouldn't do, but well....Odyssey and the ongoing PP2 has introduced some unwanted side effects to general play (still is in one way or another), I really wouldn't be surprised if the Colonisation feature has a similar global effect on the game.
We'll all be Beta testers so...🤷‍♂️....Yeah, I'll grab some popcorn as you suggest! :D

My take on the "live" beta thing is, that only the client will be a separate download/choice, but the server remains the same. Thus changes done to the galaxy will be in effect for everybody, but you can only change something with the help of the new client. This way, all the code changes in the client won't affect normal players. The server changes will affect everybody. However, I think the server code is less entangled than the client code, since it certainly is a kind of scalable cloud implementation, and there you usual can't do all the ugly shenanigans that are possible in a single-process desktop implementation. Thus the server changes don't bear that much risk.

I haven't even touched fleet carriers, there's no way I'm ever getting around to being a System Architect.
Maybe I'll drop some materials into a system colonization somewhere, but with the eternal grind of Elite? In this economy?
Ain't no way I'll be even remotely interested in preparing for colonization.

I found a system in the bubble near my home, where nobody had yet made first footfall. So... I'm claiming that as soon as the beta starts, IF colonization has any kind of monetary reward for it.

I'll be happy if a colony can offset a kitted out FC's weekly maintenance.

Thousands of hours and billions of credits later- what to do to get set, ready, Go! For colonization?
Just grind more credits, outfit and engineer haulers to transport industrial assets.
Chose a system to camp; get a first discovery and footfall?
Just wait and see?

I will not be shocked if building a space station involves obtaining materials from mining (e.g. Osmium)

My guess is both mining and purchasing (+space trucking) the rest of the required materials will be required. Hope I'm wrong because it's not going to be easy to juggle both tasks.
