Space is BIG - Seriously big

Ok we know this is true and we know that where possible the systems have been modelled accurately but seriously.

Looking like it's going to take well over an hour to deliver this coffee. This is in Alpha Centauri.

They need to either fudge the system size or come up with micro jumps for systems like this.

Ah, you have encountered Alpha Centauri. Fortunately I haven't been duped into this mission but I've read about others who have. They really need to let you lock on to specific stars.

Agreed, doesn't make much sense that you can't lock onto a secondary star in the system and jump again. If its any consolation OP there aren't too too many of these missions that are going to send you on a 40 minute snoozer.

I swear everyone's copy of Elite should now come with a warning regarding Alpha Centauri. There are a bunch of threads on this very situation, with various degrees of outrage, bemusement and rage-quiting going on.
If it's not worth your time, just dump the cargo after you abandon the mission and pay the fine :)

Yes, the ships are way too slow, not very realistic for a game set in the time of deep space travels.

am i to late for the daily Hutton terminal claimed another unsuspecting victim post? :p

speaking of seriously, there is just about a new post on this here each day :) is this the first time you visited here of did they jsut not caught your attention?.

i think they should hand out T-shirts when you make it to Hutton.. Elite perseverance Commander :)

Second the micro-jump idea for distances over, say, 100,000ls. LHS 3447 was bad enough. Looks like Hutton is a quarter LY away at that point. Sheesh. All that for some coffee. I hope the caffeine addicts on Hutton are happy.

I hope that's sarcasm, but can't really tell.

If it isn't sarcasm, which I hope it is, really, then apparently you don't realize how fast your ship is traveling in supercruise?

The problem isnt a lack of speed, its the enormous distances involved and the inability to jump to secondary stars within the same system. Semantics, but important semantics.

This system was actually carefully designed to be like that. This feature of Alpha Centauri is well known to most FFE players so it is a bit of nostalgia you see here :) Fortunately, there are just a few stations like that and most of them are closer than this one.

Has anyone ever considered doing any active Trading or *lol* Reputation work for that Station ? ;)

You'd have to get a special "Zen Master of ELITE" rank if you manage to run enough Missions for that station to make it Friendly or even Allied :D

(should there ever be new FSD technology in the Game - these guys would be contacted by the company building it to test and keep for free *g*)

Now there's a challenge!!! - I'm up for it I could always read while I'm flying to the destination lol.

However here's something to consider. The mission timings don't take into account the flight time from point of entry to the destination. While the cofee got there on time, I had another mission offer, which would only have given me 1 hour 15 mins to deliver. Needless to say I didn't take it.

Wit regards micro jumps - how about an alternative suggestion?

If a system has more then 1 stellar mass - and you've charted the data in your nav system, then when you jump you get offered a choice of entry points instead?
