Space is brutal... very brutal

I was fighting in a warzone for Mastopolis Mining. There was another player commander in the area, also fighting for Mastopolis Mining. Now, I would assume, like the many other instances I've been in with other players, we'd get along swimmingly, seeing as were both in it for either the money (unlikely considering how poor payment is) or the sake of loyalty to the Empire (more likely, if you're a mercenary don't expect to earn big). He would have his fair share of combat bonds and I would have mine. Of course, my naivety got the better of me. Whilst I was a chasing one of my targets, I notice the other player trying to get a few shots on him whilst he was low, so I whip out my gimballed multicannons to prevent the ks. The target is about to 5% hull and by the time my clip was empty he would be dead.

However, as I was shooting the target, which was trying to make a jump at this point, the other commander flew right in front of me, blocked me and stole the kill whilst my multicannons were targetting the enemy ship. Naturally, I was off that after my effort of whittering down this guy to low health my kill got taken from me at the last second, so I asked him why he stole the kill from me. My answer was apparently being shot at by lasers, which I presumed was some sort of ' you' because I didn't stop firing my multicannons whilst he was in front of me, dealing some damage to his shield. In the midst of writing another comm to him, he starts firing missiles and attacking me. Seeing that I was pretty stunned at this point, he managed to knock out my shields using missiles.

The aggressor didn't turn red on my hud until my shields were knocked out for some reason, so I only realised that this commander was attacking me when my shields were knocked out. A few missiles had stuck me at that point of realisation, knocking down my hull even more. I started to use my countermeasures to prevent any more hits and turned on silent running, than put engines at max so that I could get the hell out of the area (I wasn't in any state to fight on). Of course, my luck being what it is, I got wasted.

I'm now back at Hencke Orbital, stunned at what had just happened. I'd seen bounty hunters who were easier to work with than this guy (the no-ks rule holds some weight, as far as I can tell), willing to let me finish high bounty targets merely because I shot first and therefore the target was mine to kill. So to be killed by someone else over 3000 credits was a complete surprise.

Anyway, to conclude, the moral of this cautionary tale is:

1. Don't trust anyone you don't know, even if they're on the same side as you.
2. Don't assume that because of a certain precaution (in my case, the fact that 3000 credits really is nothing) that people won't be big giant space .
3. Apparently, people will fight over 3000 credits.

Absolutely right on all points except don't assume everyone will behave like the you dealt with. What he did was pure griefing, end of story, and the subsequent behaviour was a follow-up. Maybe highlighting their name in the forums would work, not because of vengeance, but at least other Cmdr's will know what to expect from this person in-game.

There is no 'stole MY kill" as you dont own any!

I feel bad for you - lots of work for someone else to swoop in and get the bounty, but thats how it is.

the absolute opposite of this.

hey, something new, unexpected, and strange happened! take it for what it is, remember it's a game, and to enjoy the little unexpected things, even if it's a negative thing. it gets pretty boring pretty fast just playing against the same old ai over and over again, a little player interaction, good or bad, is good to spice up the experience.

Plus, don't you get a little surge of adrenaline when you're busy doing something and a hollow box/pentagon appears? definitely brings an element of surprise into the game that's much needed.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

Reminder to all that kill lists and/or naming and shaming are not allowed on this forum. See the rules link in my signature.

Thank you.

Yes the correct action was to continue firing when he came into your line of fire. The damage was done then and him taking the kill would have proved it. The best way to reduce such behavior is to stop it from working.
