Space legs and VR - Dear Devs - please!

I have just watched the "space station tour"

Dear Fdev - you can't do it to us - please do not make 2D flat screen projection - please impletement VR, in 3D, in even simplies "facegun" way as its done in Subnautica.
We do not need at now 'full VR' if that is not possible.

Please re-consider this 2D flatscreen projection - we're loosing all good of VR experience here - a third dimension and possibility to 'look around' - its really poor idea. We would like to put on the helmet and just 'walk', by keyboard and mouse on the Elie world by a foot.
We don't need to see the keyboard for now, we do not want to be super-efficient in PvP, but we would like to boldly go where no man has gone before, feel the emptyness of space and see strange new worlds 'by own eyes'.

I like that, but my story is slightly different - my post is a silent scream, an deep regret for the FDev would like to make VR flat.
Dear FDev - please re-consider the approach. Let us have stunning VR experience.

Be happy that they at least gave us a 2D flatscreen within VR. The original premise was monitor-only for Odyssey. So it's already a huge step up from having to keep rebooting the game between Odyssey and the rest of the game.

That said I would also like the option to try Odyssey in proper VR even if the devs haven't fully implemented whatever it is they deem necessary. I also play ETS2 (European Truck Simulator) and that one exclusively in VR. The devs for that game don't officially support VR, it's a single dev within the company which maintains an Alpha VR build. There are a couple of bits within the game which are just plain broken in VR, but the majority works well enough. If there was no VR support at all I would not play that game.

While I still like to play ED on a monitor occasionally depending on what I do in-game, I find myself playing it more and more in VR despite the comparatively poor visuals and performance; the immersiveness is just hard to give up.

I just hope and pray that FDev will continue to consider VR as primary feature, something which has not been all that apparent lately.

In fact providing just 3D VR experience like in Subnautica is much easier to code or implement than 2D flatscreen projection.

So it would be better to do something useful and great than useless 2D projection. Its combining low-res and low FOV VR experience with all flatscreen disadvantages. Its better just to remove the VR helmet from head than play 2D game within.

The point of VR is to have 3D view and possibility to look around - if you have this, then keeping helmet on head is only downside.

"hey guys, mind if we make the dev delay the new update until the part I like is ready?"

Since they allready have 2d projection in, which is basically another layer, a virtual screen in virtual "room", I'm very hopeful there is a possibility to disable switching to 2d-projection when player exits ship and then stereoscopic view just stays on like inside ships cockpit. That leaves headtracking, and even if it's not for example tied to mouse by devs, it could still be acceptable using third party tools.

So I would be surprised if there is no way to play EDO in real VR (allthough unofficial and on a very basic level, but VR nonetheless)

I've played some different kinds of games with different levels of VR support and bad VR support is worse than no support, tbh.
True. But sometimes we get surprised too, I played Skyrim on VR years before official Skyrim VR and loved it.

At least Consoles are only delayed... (unless you are also subscribing to the "Bin Consoles" conspiracy too?)

With luck the console releases will be built from the debugged code from PC.

Whilst I wouldn't say I'm a firm believer, I would say I would not be shocked.

Also, my understanding is whilst there will be some bugs removed, it will probably come with a bunch of new console related bugs.

Unfortunately it does not work like that, there are so many bugs platform related, so don't expect a polished console launch at all ;)

Maybe I was being snippy, I get that VR people feel like they could never play the game 'normal' again but they have the choice. They could just take the goggles off and play the game. I don't have that choice.
