This is my first attempt at a Planet Coaster produced ride video. The Space Mountain coasters around the globe serve as inspiration. The original 1971 Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom served as inspiration for the ride building and is about 95% dimensionally accurate. The layout is a mix of all 3 layouts (Paris with the launch, asteroids and special effects, Magic Kingdom with the helixes and sweeping turns, and Disneyland/HKDL/Tokyo's with ramps and tight U-turns).
The story/theme of the ride is heavily based around a little known aspect of Disneyland Paris’s original incarnation of Space Mountain: De la Terre à la Lune. Music is also from that attraction. The story is centered around Colonel Impey Barbicane's Bluemoon Mining Machine, which was a product of the Baltimore Gun Club’s attempt to extract resources from asteroids. My (fictional) take on the story is that the mining operation is taking place on an alien planet (where the first minute of the ride occurs). You’ve been recruited to prospect several asteroids that may have new resources to extract, and are shot toward the asteroids as the ride picks up speed. Retro rockets engage shortly thereafter and slow the rocket as it approaches the asteroid field. But like all good rides, something goes wrong and you’re forced to abandon the mission, narrowly avoiding several collisions with out of control asteroids before returning back to base.
