Newcomer / Intro Space needs more pirates...

Yeah...what the subject said.

4 systems...I must have locked onto 75+ ships in over an hour. I even explored some unidentified signal sources. I'd venture to guess that 97% of them were clean. The ones that weren't were "Expert", "Dangerous", or "Elite". I'm not good enough for them yet. And I don't have he credits (only about 24k) to afford to loose my ship by scrapping with them.

On the plus side...one of my unidentified signal sources turned out to be a wedding barge & about 5 "drunk" pilots in Adders bumping into each other. I wished them good luck, reported the Adder pilots for drunk flying and went about my way. :D

Anyone else experience the fact that there are so few pirates to go after? Guess I could submit a bug report or a feature enhancement. :S

Their areas called resource extraction zone that can be found around planets with rings, in Extraction, Industrial and i believe refinery type systems.

Here's a newb question - what defines a pirate?
I did one pirate mission to completion and as far as I could tell it was simply any ship with a wanted status? And you are suppose to avoid killing "pirate" ships that are aligned with one of the factions you're trying to gain rep with, right?

Just camp out at Nav beacons. Wanted ships will come to you. Clean ones too, but there will be a steady flow of wanted ships with only a few minutes of downtime after you kill.

There are certain bulletin board missions that want you to kill pirates, or traders or bounty hunters, for these you have to go into USS in the designated system. then scan the ships you find there, Pirate ships certainly belong to their own pirate faction and this can be seen in the contacts menu in the left UI screen. Not Every Wanted Pilot is a Pirate.

How do you know if a faction is a pirate faction? For example, I was getting credit for wanted ships from a faction that was labeled Makiv Independents(or something along those lines).

I'd happily be a pirate if it didn't stain my reputation. Perhaps if there was the possibility of multiple profiles with a single license.. I like the idea of playing a character very different from myself, but the main thing stopping me is having a record & not being able to try out being a good guy as a result.

Look up in the system information if the faction is affilated with empire or federation.
remember. Left -righthand pannels are your best friends

Absolute perfect place!! Got in there, first ship I targeted "Wanted" and "Mostly Harmless" . Took him out but in the process accidentally tagged a security ship so now he was after me too. Managed to take out the pirate before I beat a hasty withdrawal.

Thanks for the tip!!

Haven't tried the other suggestions yet. Been finding all the Nav beacons and hitting those.
