Okay, for you pilots out there going for long hauls in ships that aren't designed for it (ie Sidewinders, Vipers, etc... ships without mini kitchenettes) you might notice that your FSD keeps nice and warm in the back. In fact by design it has to maintain a steady temperature for stability reasons.
Now, if you strip off the insulation hatch underneath the main junction, you won't in any way damage or weaken your FSD, but what you will do is create your own slow cooker. Just slap a ceramic pot on top of it, throw in your ingredients, a lid you can clamp shut, and you can make great meals during your long flights.
Here's one of my favorites to cap off a long trip with
4 bone-in chicken thighs
salt
fresh ground pepper
1 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes, sliced. Avoid canned stuff in oil!
(pro-tip, your reactor area can be rigged for drying out vegetables, but that's a different topic).
1/4 cup chicken broth
1/4 cup Eranin Pearl Wine (just remember, that stuff is illegal in Fed space)
use a liberal amount of salt and pepper on the chicken thighs and place at the bottom of the pot, add the mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes. Pour in broth and wine. Cover, and cook for 4 hours (this is assuming a "high" setting... if your jury-rigged slow cooker isn't giving off enough heat and is considered "low", try 6 hours).
