Horizons Space Sci-Fi Lovers and the future of ED

I was thinking about some immersive mechanics, and would be great if different commanders could assume different roles. Lets explain this with an example, a trading example, and I´m no ta trader, but I would be if this mechanics are implemented:

- You are a space trucker, and you are a well paid trucker, why? Because only a few have the patience of transporting this "kind" of cargo. What do I mean? Lets dream a little: Mission objective: Transport 200 iron tons to "blah blah base in bleh bleh planet". OK for now, I would take a good transport ship and go and ask for landin perm and ok, reward for me! Funny? NO, except for the travel itself, beautiful, nice landing, nice gliding, with awesome sounds.... funny trading mission? NOT for me.

Now lets change a little the mechanic (and no, no pirates in this mission :D). Lets think about the situation and imagina the planet base, your destiny, is in a cannon, where you cannot land a big ship like an Anaconda or a Type7 because it has not the proper landing pad size and the base is almost hidden between rocks. Now lets think you can carry "trucks" like big SRVs in your ship. Lets do some fun! Land where the hell you can with your ship, and let´s add a new mechanic in game so you can deploy your cargo on the ground via cargo bay. You can see all the canisters, or tanks, or whatever under your Anaconda for example. Then you deploy your "truck" and have to transport the cargo from the landing place to the base via the cannon or road you discovered before landing. It is at least more fun for me, more entertaining.
BUT... we are not finished. Lets add some action if you wish, imagine your truck has 50 tons capacity in cargo rack, so you have to do more than one travel to deliver all the cargo to the base.... oh my.. part of your cargo is abandoned under your Anaconda while you are on the road to the base. Hello multiplayer task??
Two ways: you can be a little smuggler who can wait for the trucker to leave the landing place, land and take some canisters. Moahahhaa I´d love to do that! He is not going to miss it!. But there is always a solution. Another player with another ship or another truck and make shifts for delivering, even the mission can be faster!

This way I think trading could be more fun (not talking about profits, just having some fun with friends)
Of course always you can do this mission with some friends and they can protect the cargo while you are in the delivery.

What about shady stuff?
Missions like where you have to meet a contact in an SRV just outside a base, but your ship must stay out of range of the station... During the meeting, you receive an intel package and two tons of, lets call it cargo. You ask no questions, take it back to your ship, take all delivery details from the intel package and go...

The graphic department of Cloud Imperium Games are doing an impressive Job with Star Citizen. The model and material quality is excellent and the animations are top notch.
However, the overall glitchy state of almost everything isnt really funny anymore.

frank play it in "offline mode"..youtube it if you don't know what im on about...I get 60fps in crusader.
patch 2.7 brings planet landings like nyx into play and the talk is that new net code is being rolled out for 2.7 also....and that means smooth gameplay hopefully.

star citizen is the most ambitious and impressive looking space game in development and I cant wait to live in GIGS "verse"...its good fun already with a ton of mechanics, boarding mates ships.....you know proper multicrew...how its meant to be done.

cmon FD get that FPS mechanic in there already......

Just hope Frontier is developing things like that, or at least reading the forums to catch some ideas from the community :D

good thread, Elite will be a LOT better once first person and atmospheric landings are possible, I just fear FD will it up in a clunky Powerplay/Engineers MMO nonsense and spoil it. If they concentrate on making it a great experience for a single player and THEN think of things to add MMO/MP/Co opwise to that already good experience then I'll have a blast.

I'm imagining a trail of breadcrumbs sort of thing (just not on the scale of the UA stuff which needs multiple minds to figure out!), akin to Space Odessey. Go to a system, pick up a weird signal, investigate planet, find "something", that leads somewhere, find more interesting stuff....get some of the book writers to script mega missions like this with a backstory etc etc. Now THAT would get my interest in Elite back up there!

They have already started...

I got offered a job by an NPC in an asteroid field while bounty hunting... Deliver this (dont recall what it was) to somewhere and you will be rich. Cant go there myself because of reasons... I scanned him, he was wanted... Well i cashed in his bounty some hours later, but such mechanics are already in the game.
Frontier is very aware, that the players demand complex and interesting missions. The overhaul we recently saw, was just the beginning. I dont know what the mission generator is capable of right now, but FD know their stuff for sure. When the system fills up with content and gets some additional modules over time, Elite missions will deliver big time.
