Space Sports

New Signal Source in FSS/Navigation. Racing (Sublight and FSD races) or Target Shooting. Ship, Fighter and SRV events... Drop out and line up with the other contestants.

Jump Race: Line up... 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... System name pops up, hit the nav screen, jump, scan the nav beacon jump back, return to the FSD Race Signal Source.

Sub-light/SRV/Fighter Races: Line up... 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. First to scan all 8-10 beacons in order wins.
  • Planet Side Races: Race around a port or crater in SRV (100-1,000 km) or your ship (10,000 km).
  • Fighter Race: Use limpets to line the course, rings to fly through.
  • Ship Races: Scan the beacons
Target Shooting: Line up, shooting gallery style. (No flying) Person with the most targets (limpets) destroyed wins.
  • Planet Side (SRV and Ship): Shoot the Skimmers
  • Space (Ship and Fighter): Shoot the Limpets
Limpet Pong: Stop the limpet from hitting your backwall (indicated by 4 beacons). Limpet bounces like a pong dot but in a 3D space.

Relay Race for full Wings would be neat too. Each person lines up at a different beacon. Start beacon flies to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4 and 4 to Finish. Other wing sports could be team vs team.

1st place gets 500,000; 2nd: 250,000; 3rd: 100,000; or possibly some material rewards (Wing sports get 4x).

Maybe some of the event/signal could last 24h and be a community thing. You run it individually. Next day winners receive a the reward and a mention in GalNet. Most events though would be signal source and you would complete against npc's or other players that also found the same source.

whaaat? don't you know that:
"racing events constitute breach of security"?

Actually, I really don't like the idea of this kind of activities to randomly pop up in signal sources. Sounds really gamey
But missions generated by some new kind of local "sport service" in ports? Like "Racing league of Sol" f.ex.? It could maybe work.
This could introduce new kind of profession: Pro-Racer (or any other kind of Pro-Sportsman). Local leaderboards, Regional events (like Federal, Imperial, Alliance), Galaxy championships once a year, or so...
Even engeneering a ship to participate in such events could be interesting.

Far enough. I was thinking similar to "Weapons Fire" signal or "Non-Human" signal in that there is a time-limit to participate. But I like the idea of adding it to the Star Port menu.

Is that an actually quote from somewhere/Frontier?
Yeah :)
It's one of those "public announcements" you hear repeated on stations - this one can be heard only on surface ports.

Actually, some of those events you've mentioned are sometimes organized by players. Ship canyon races, SRV races (or rallies) etc.
Not long ago Alec Turner organized group SRV circumnavigation of a planet Kumay in Chi Herculis system.
As kind of side event we've had this race track "set up" in Bridger Town (planetary outpost) to test our SRV skills.
