Currently we have small outposts and /large/ space stations in game, but very little in between. This suggestion (or request, if you like) is for outposts with more well defined and more advanced habitable areas for its inhabitants.
For example, an intermediate outpost could consist of a few (5 or 6, maybe more?) space-facing landing pads such as small outposts have currently, with one or two habitat rings.
From a lore perspective, it would make sense to have these outposts where the resources to construct a full-sized Coriolis or larger simply isn't feasible or economic, but there is still sufficient demand for habitable space on the outpost.
From a gameplay perspective, nothing in particular needs to change at all. These intermediate outposts could serve exactly the same function as the smaller outposts we have now as a drop-in replacement wherever lore would dictate their existance.
But it would be a good excuse to implement large landing pads on outposts if there was a need or desire for it, and/or they could offer an intermediate level of service between the usually fully featured outfitting and markets at larger stations and the basic amenities on offer from outposts. Hutton orbital, for example, I think could use some love.
