Space Station Tycoon

We often hear people calling for player owned starports etc, but what if Frontier did it as an entirely seperate game (like CqC) only they actually existed in the ED universe.
it would be pretty cool to see people creating all manner of star ports from pirate outposts to orbital shipyards...And the area of human space could slowly grow through this mechanism as new systems are colonised.

It's possible although my personal main reason against player owned items is that it inevitably leads to territory control and soon a large portion of the playable area is a no-fly zone. That put me off Eve within the demo period and I vowed not to play any multiplayer game that encourages a tree-fort no girls allowed type rule about some of the game's universe.
If it's 100% separate I have no objections but even the inconsequential player groups/minor factions have led to an increase of territory (in this case system) control.

As for human space expansion currently stations are manually added by devs so a system like this could give them more work than they could manage. The plan is to eventually make it work in the background sim afaik but it requires a fair bit of coding constraints to stop people expanding to Sag A* or wherever.

We already have player owned starports (ok, player faction starports), which work well. Player factions are usually grossly underestimated by those not in them.

I would be against single player owned anything, but would support the above separate solution.

How much of an influence on existing stations can we have?

Like can we turn some back water outpost that doesnt even have a commodities market into a thriving market place with its own mini shipyard?

I wouldn't be adverse to an Elite: Dangerous version of Monopoly. Houses could be outposts, hotels could be Coriolis stations and the playing pieces could be the smaller ships like the Cobra Mk. III, Viper, Adder, etc.. The jail could be Sag A*, Go could be a nav beacon. Practically writing itself :p
