Space Stations

Was thinking/wondering. That all the space stations that you come into contact with are all pretty rotating Stations.
I would LOVE to see more variety in the stations. Like ones built Ad-Hoc/Ramshackled Outter rim type stations, beat up run down etc. Watched Titan AE the other night and the station that where the bit of the movie revolved around looked great. Dirty run down and bolted together with what ever was laying around.

Thoughts?

Regards

Since they seem to like the whole artificial gravity thing. I've always been a fan of the space station from Mass effect 2. It has these arms that spin at different depths adding a single station with varying degrees of gravity. The ones that spin closer to the center will have less gravity and the one further out will have more...

I would like to see more variety too

This one just looks like a homeworld type station... epic

But yeah for mining stations you most likely wouldn't want gravity at all and that's where those more industiral space platforms make the most sense, you could have these more 'rough' working class stations. Would work well for smugglers outpost too.

I'm sure there will be lots of goodies to see in the future.

Take a look all the back issues of the newsletter to get a glimpse of some concept art. FD is keeping all the goodies for release (rather than showing everything in Beta), so we're getting stringed alone nicely with a trickle of new stuff every month or so.

That's one of the things I love about FD. I log on all the time too see what other goodies they might have that week.

(I have full faith in them and I'm not saying that they should make these stations but I think speculation is fun)

I totally agree - but lets be fair, factions as big as the federation et cetera would probably insist on building stations that have the same basic architecture.

Although for unique worlds and systems, I totally agree, variety is the spice of life!

For a treat look for concept art of a station similar to your 3rd picture, but with various ships and platforms parked (if not circling around) the top disc down

Yes, and FD haven't shown us to much of the Imperial stuff yet; so I'm guess that where all the eye candy are given that's fractions fashion for the flair and luxury.

Mini stations similar to the last picture are planned. As for the larger stations I feel those that we have now are would be among the most effective designs for rotating structures.

Frontier had a larger class of station that you only found in the most populous systems. Presumably E: D will have something similar since they've already done the Coriolis and Orbis stations. Can't wait to see what they come up with as these two are wonderfully realised.

Yeah there has been a whole raft of concept art of space stations.
I remember an asteroid one and one that had an outside landing pad in space ...or maybe I'm just imagining things :)

Just remember though that there is no magic gravity in ED so if you want 'gravity' in your space station it is going to have to rotate.

And.... Newsletter #11 is mostly about space stations, so click here and be prepared to be intrigued.

We probably won't be able to own one, but we'll be able to influence the establishment of one.

It's hinted that we could even purchase (which is not necessary the same as own) a mining module that would hollow out an asteroid into a mining base.

The other hinted concept was a module that will 'inflate' or 'deployed' into some sorts of a base.
