Spacer Parlance

My old Elite Fan site (GalNET) had a section on spacer parlance, and I though it would be fun to recreate it here.

I'll start by listing some of the terms and phrases that I can remember being submitted to the original GalNET thread.

And see what gets added

So here goes:

1: Spacer - Anyone who lives and works in space and rarely if ever goes 'Planetside'.

2: Planetside - The situation of being on a planet.

3: Zoot Suit - a suit with small thrusters used for manoevering in space outside of ones ship, often used to transport from one ship to another where docking is not an option.

4: Domeheads - Imperials

5: Dirt Balls - Derogatory term for planets

6: Eating Dirt - Crashing into a planet.

7: Doing the funky chicken - Flying in a random and erratic pattern (usually when trying to dodge a missile).

8: Bugs - Thargoids, or Derogatory reference to any other alien.

9: Iron **** - A heavily defended ship, one with lots of shields and weapons.

10: Bare **** - A ship lacking in shields.

11: Zoot - To flee, runaway, or just make a quick exit.

12: Crazy Craft - Ships that are either out of control or flown by clueless American teenagers.

13: Breadbin - Cargo Hold.

14: Crust - Profit.

Thats all i can remember at the moment but i'll try to dig the original file out from my server

Cool notion, i hope it is adopted and extended by the current community.

here is my suggestion to the space lexicon

Bounty Hunter - Venator.

common criminal - Malefact.

Interesting stuff, I can't really add anything from the old games but in the Alpha one of the NPC enemies called me a 'Void Rat' in a way that suggested it was a derogatory term for someone worthless or contemptible.

It could be worse Jenner.

LOL Pointy heads

Well around here we use 'pointy heads' for folk that like in the country (don't ask me why) Perhaps we could call folk from backwater worlds 'Pointy heads' too
