Spacey sounding or space inspired works of music for listening to while traveling the galaxy

I was planning on doing this thread for about a week, I feel bad doing it with the other music thread, but that's music for battle, which is a personal preference, this is very specific. I have a huge affinity for anything space related and listen to a lot of spacey sounding or space inspired music, I'm sure some of you others have your own and I'm always looking for something new. Some are single tracks, others are entire albums, may be some of these songs will inspire you to make videos out of them, may be your songs will inspire others, that's my hope anyway. Nothing like inspiring space videos to hit me right in the feels. Many of these artists are very small or the labels are very indy so they don't attack people who uploads their music, they actually appreciate the exposure.

That reminded me of another artists that takes the tonal frequencies from stuff like that and then writes tracks around it.

That's interesting, like a cross between leftfield and really old school trance like Underworld.

Hey,

I prefer to listen to the same kind of music (only when playing ED lol), which is why I listen to:

http://tunein.com/radio/DI-Space-Dreams-s102820/

or

http://tunein.com/radio/SomaFM-Space-Station-Soma-s53125/

or

http://tunein.com/radio/SomaFM-Deep-Space-One-s206475/

But mostly I listen to the first.

Cheers,

If that's your flavor, you will probably really like Boards Of Canada, Hammock and Port-Royal.

Can't get much more space music than this:

Light years is the best album. But Echoes is also excellent.

Oh this is right up my alley, you are probably going to love almost everything I posted, if you haven't already heard it.

How has someone NOT mentioned the soundtrack to the original Cosmos?

....We stand on the shores of the cosmic oceans."

I haven't actually. I'll check it out when I can. On my phone now with no earphones.

There's nothing better than listening to this stuff when out in the boondies, exploring. Only trouble is, for some weird reason, my game has started seriously dropping frame rates (it feels less than 10fps) whenever there's an animating screen overlay.

Example, the FSD charging icon and the fuel scoop icon. It only affects Ydiss (not my alt, who is back in human space). I reckon it's something to do with the star density.

What it means is I can't have chrome open in the background. If I do, my system locks up, everything freezes for several seconds, repeatedly. So I can't play music right now. Unless I have it downloaded, of course.

What kind of video card do you have?

Gtx 470. I'm pretty certain it's not that. I've played it on max settings (excluding super sampling) and it barely pushes it up to stress levels.

My bottle neck has always been my cpu. It's the q6600 (basically the first ever quad core to come out).

That said, I haven't noticed the cpu usage jump up and it's around 35% when the performance drops.

I can try updating my gpu drivers (to be honest, that's never fixed anything for me).

What's worrying is how my whole system locks up as a symptom. This happens when loading the game and I have chrome in the background.

It's all a bit odd. It's playable, I just can't run chrome (not tried anything else, mumble works fine). And it's only started happening since I got close to the core. Though I noticed the lockup at other times when exploring.

Excluding the lock up, the symptoms are easy to reproduce. Turn on FSD charge, lag. Turn it off. Lag goes away. Fuel scoop, lag. Fuel scoop completes (animation stops), lag goes away.

It also happens during the FSD count down. Stops immediately after. The lag only happens when there's an animating hud dead centre. The lock up seems to happen during loading. The lag only happens on my commander near the core, not the one back in human space (two different installations, but I don't think it's that).

They might be unrelated.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Chrome is a massive, massive RAM hog, almost more than firefox, you usually average 20-25kb per tab. It's k, just give me +1 if you enjoy some of the tunes.

I did anyway :)

The thing is, I'm not wanting for ram at all. And this is only a recent development. I've played since October and for months I could run multiple tabs, play videos, steam music and all sorts. No trouble.

I thought overheating but it's not been that long since I replaced my heat sink and fan, with a fresh application of conductive paste.

Oh well, I just need to buy all this music and get it downloaded. I doubt winamp will cause any problems.

It's all a bit weird.

Classic 70's psychedelic rock with space influence. Sometimes it's hard to know who influenced who considering You Are Not Alone was well after Wish You Were Here, but Buchanan was a far more veteran guitarist than Waters.

Not to mention that Waters wasn't even a guitarist in Pink Floyd :D Buchanan was definitely inspired by Dark Side and Animals, but it's very obvious that Gilmour was inspired by Buchanan's earlier works. So it's a circle :D
Also Buchanan was mentioned by guitar god himself Jeff Beck as one of his favorites and biggest inspirations. High praise if you ask me.
