Spare Ship

How many people have a spare, highly outfitted ship just in case everything goes wrong? I currently have a Vulture and a Type-7, but I just bought a cobra and geared it for multipurpose, and the best possible equipment. Decent cargo cap, good in combat, fast, agile, and has a fuel scoop as an emergancy measure. This is to make sure that I can get a decent headstart if everything goes wrong. What do you have?

Always this.

I've got an Asp fitted for exploration, a fully tanked Clipper for combat and a mining Cobra that is my last resort. If I loose ships all the way to the Cobra I need to re-think my entire game plan.

Edit: Will soon also have Anaconda or Python or both from Zaonce without selling any other ships.

I also have a Cobra kitted out in case I lose everything :) It's the perfect bounce-back ship really as it can do everything well just doesn't excel in any 1 aspect.

None, i don't fly ships without at least 3x re-buy covered.

It's a good thing to have spare ships though, if you consider yourself prone to miscalculating or "forgetting". Bit of an extra safety net.

Having the rebuy will actually help more, so liquidating a ship to make sure you have the rebuy for your current ship is likely wiser. You may want to keep your ships around, as liquidating the more expensive ones will mean losing millions, generally.

I've kept my original Cobra and fitted it out as I progressed. The Asp is purely for exploration, but I spend 99% of my time in the Anaconda. That is now effectively fully equipped, so I'll be building up spare cash before checking out the other ships.

I don't consider them 'spare', just ships to experience as part of ED, and to take on roles as they come along.

I don't understand exactly how spare ships are any better (for the case everything goes wrong) than having their value in your account, except increasing your possibility of not affording insurance.

The reason I have extra ships is that I use different ships for different purposes, and occasionally get an urge to fly some particular ones, and
a) don't want to lose 10% of ship value every time I swap ships
b) don't want to spend a lot of time finding the particular setup I like for each model.

I could never sell my original Viper, which is still max-specced out for bounty hunting. I'm also building a backup asp right now with my income. I may store my Python and switch back to Asp when I'm done with it, leaving me a backup Viper and a backup Python.

have a python fully kitted out for trading 280 tons and full weapons , great for coining in the millions and killing the big boys but too slow for bounty hunting, sold my other ship the vulture but i think i'm going to get it back ( have the best of both worlds ) as they say .

Yeah, selling some of the more expensive ships loses more money via deprectiation than a rebuy.

I have 3. Only 2 are fitted, the last is gutted, but still there :)
It is a great way to secure yourself that I learned the hard way, for one.

Selling a ship? Only if I know for a fact, that I will never fly it again. (So, yes... multiple)

Sure makes progression take extra time, but I'm having fun, so who cares?

I currently own a fleet of four ships - Eagle, Viper, Cobra, and Asp, all fully kitted out. But I doubt anything will go wrong, since I'm now sat on a credit balance 100 times that of the rebuy cost of the ship I'm currently flying in.

I have Different ships for Different roles.
And because equipping a ship is too much of a pain in the rear exhaust outlet.

Just a Type9, Vulture and a Hauler (taxi) atm though.

I currently have my original Sidey, a combat equipped Viper and my Exploration ASP. I really wish there was a way to store equipment at a home port or something like that.

There are lots of reasons why a spare ships are a good idea- including fall-back money makers if the worst happens, but also to let you change tracks if you're doing too much of the same. I think I have four ships right now, if I exclude all the bookmark sideys, so when I fancy a change of pace, I don't need to buy/sell and refit. It would be more, but I had a bit of a clearout lately. I'll probably end up rebuying some of the favourites once I am not gathering money for anything particular.

Also, it's just nice to have different ships. I have wasted many hours in this game just zooming around and having fun to no particular end, and half of that fun is a choice of rides.

Trade Anaconda, is my Spare ship. She had her glory days as my main Hunter ship, but it looks like reachin Elite from Deadly gonna take longer if would continue to use this ship.... due of complex way of ranking up in combat.

My main ship is now FdL again.
