I recently flew around testing my chieftain near Felicity's base and as I flew around in the pitch black canyon it was hard to make out where to go.
And from that I got the idea to suggest 'space sonar', an interface that highlights the terrain.
It coul be a toggleable in-ship feature or a module/utility that a player can install.
And to make it easier to visualize what I mean, here an example for how it could look from the game Saubnautica:
*I am aware that such a feature could have a bad impact on performance especially on low-end devices, therefore it should be optional in my opinion.
What are your opinions on this?
Good idea or rather not so good?
Edit:
If the dark side of planets being really dark is a bug thats going to be fixed with the magic flashlight that lights everything up with the lore explanation that the 'super smart glass' of our cockpit canopy adjusts the light for us to see better... well it does make sense and is less work for the developers but the space sonar option is (in my opinion) way cooler for a game like elite.
