So, yeah.. Decided to check out a capital ship and as soon as I exited the supercruise I kissed the hull. Didn't even have time to say "What the.." before I heard the "Hull critical" message. 4 mill credits out of my pocket and now I have to be very careful about what I'm doing.. Should I write to support or should I just bite the bullet and do some mind numbing trading?

Ticket it. Guy by the name of 777Driver had the same thing happen to him and they got him his cash back (eventually)
Can happen due to latency between you and the instance host. It's also possible to collide with it upon entrance if you aren't careful as you enter cap ship instances only 2km from the ship.
