ANNOUNCEMENT SpecialEffect Gamers Charity - Thank You!

Hi

My name is Nick and I am from the SpecialEffect gamers charity that the community so kindly supported at the weekend.

Based at our National Centre in Oxfordshire our small charity works across the UK to help disabled gamers and as a parents whose child has been
helped I can vouch 110% for the positive impact games and the charity has! Below is a description about the charity. Sadly I can't post links here
with videos to show you what your donations mean but please do see our website specialeffect.org.uk to see the kind of difference you have made.

Nick and all At SpecialEffect

SpecialEffect help people with physicaldisabilities to enjoy video games for fun, inclusion and rehabilitation.

We know there's no one-size-fits-all way ofdoing this. So we visit people to find out exactly what they want to play, andwhat they need to play it. We'll then match, modify or create equipment to lendto them, and give support so they can get the best out of it.

It takes time, patience and expertise, butit opens the door to self-esteem, confidence and a better quality of life.

Hello Nick,

I am happy to have helped (in a my small way by contributing - Mike was the main organiser!). Not sure if it was you at the première or not, but I did have a chat with the guy on the stand about what you do. It is such a cool thing to do.

Keep up the good work!

I looked at your website and noticed your GameBlast event. http://www.specialeffect.org.uk/gameblast-about that sounds like it could be fun. I wonder if Frontier or the Lave Radio crew would be willing to help organise players from the Elite: Dangerous community to get together to participate in this?

Fly safe!

Hello Nick. I was happy to help by donating to the charity fund. I know it will be well used. Kate Russell introduced me to your charity at Fantasticon 2014 and I've followed and donated a little since then. I enjoy seeing / reading the articles about the work you do and how much a simple switch can make the day of a person who just wants to play a game.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, it is amazing how games can help bring a better standard of living to many disadvantaged people. Keep up the great work you do specaleffect!

I am glad that in some small way I have helped a bit. The work that you all put in to changing people's lives always needs to be championed and rewarded.

I'm so glad we managed to do this for both GamesAid and SpecialEffect. It was a great idea and here's a video of the presentation to David Braben at the Premiere. Captured on camera by Deryk Lister. Smashing!

Thank you again for your support. GamesAid are a brilliant grant making charity to SpecialEffect who we were lucky enough to receive a grant from earlier this year after a vote!

Just wanted to share this story to show the kind of impact your support will have for SpecialEffect :) Thank you again to the community for your support, have a wonderful xmas!

Here's how Becky created a stunning 3D Spore creature just using her eyes. Becky has cerebral palsy and can't use a keyboard or a mouse, so she used an eye-controlled computer to create her monster in Spore.
Our good friends at Mondelēz International modified the code from Spore and ran it through their 3D printing process. The result is an amazing figurine that Becky wouldn't otherwise have been able to create.
Her sculpture, along with the ones created by Alex and Abbie, were made possible through our Eye Sculpture Project. It's just one of the ways that we're helping people with physical disabilities to push their creativity and leisure to the max.

You are, as always, very very welcome... I think everyone involved was very happy to have been able to make some contribution to the fantastic work that you do. It certainly gave several of us a warm glow inside although that may have been the heating coming on... ;)

I happen to know that there are a number of people in these forums who encounter difficulties in gaming in one way or another ranging from mobility issues to colour blindness. Also, many have family members who are affected in some way so I guess it's a way of saying 'Thank you and keep up the truly excellent work!' :)
