Specialised Legacy Firmware

Hey all,

Can anyone tell me the best way to fine Specialised Legacy Firmware?

The Wiki seems out of date and some other things I found didn't work either - it seems like satellites have been removed from the game?

Sounds like encoded, which to me would be a trip to Jamesons crash site, and then Frontier Flop or relog until you fill up on what is offered at the crash site. Then a trip to the nearest encoded mat trader to trade for what you need.

Easy way to get Spec. Leg. Fw's:

1. Accept a wing assassination mission which offers 5x Modified Embedded Firmwares as an optional reward
2. Kill mission target NPC (takes only a few minutes)
3. Pick material reward
4. Go to the nearest material trader
5. Trade down a couple of MEF's
6. Swim in Spec. Leg. Firmwares

It works with other kind of missions as well.

Even easier way to get the firmwares you want:

1. Ask your friend to share the wing mission he has already finished but hasn't yet handed in.
2. Goto step 3 of the previous method.

Hack megaship

Or visit degraded signal sources threat 0 or 3. You are looking for the private data beacons. Bring limpets for the other drops.

You get satellites quite often at installation sites. They are normally free floating, or stuck in the red eye things (not my best description!). As far as I have encountered, you won't get into trouble for scanning them either. Sometimes you'll have to scan the installation though, but then with some, I've found you can jump out and back in to get new data too. This isn't consistent though, but works on some.

Hope this helps Javert, and hope you're well old chap o7

I now mostly find easy todo missions that offers Modified Embedded Firmware, (grade 5) data, and then use a material trader to trade down to Specialised Legacy Firmware (grade 1) and now you get plenty of this because it is trade down.

So I usually take a look at the mission and look at what the rewards are, and if an easy mission shows up with Grade 5 Material, I take it, and then for the next time I some stuff to trade down with and if you are lucky, the mission you are offered fits in with what you planned todo. I call this opportunistic gameplay, to avoid having to go knee deep (or more) in gathering needed mats for the next engineering task I have planned.

1 Modified Embedded Firmware (MEF) = 81 Specialized Legacy Firmware (SLF). A 10 minute mission that typically gives 3 to 5 MEF should provide 243 to 405 SLF.

It's grade 1 so you can trade just about any data you've already got for it. You get data just by targeting ships. I've been doing bounty hunting. After every session I'm getting near full of some types of data, so I go to the material trader and trade for stuff that I havent got so much of. There's a data trader in the station I'm working from. The station before had a manufactured materials trader, so I took some collector limpets and filled up with just about every type. You can do the same when mining, where you pick up materials while collecting your ore fragments. Between bounty hunting and mining, you can get every material you need for engineering for nothing, while you make a boatload of credits.

Wing assassination missions are no different from the solo ones in terms of G5 rewards. Don't waste time picking them if you're only looking for materials.

Go to the Jeterait system and stack non-wing assassination missions that offer MEF as a reward. Then trade MEF for SLF at the material trader.

Agreed with all the suggestions to do a mission for it and trade down (various other firmware types are also on the mission reward list, not just MEF, so you've got plenty of options) - surface scan missions are possibly the best type as you've got a good chance of picking up even more firmware of various grades while doing the mission ... as well as the related "encryption" data type which is harder to get from mission rewards.

You also get them when you scan the target on the planetary scan missions that spawn little bases or buildings.

And if you do the rounds on a permanent base scanning the 4 or 5 poles that start the timer (do them all before the timer ends) you can get a whole bunch of useful scans: Cracked Ind. Firmwear, Modified Embedded Firmware, Specialized Legacy Firmware, and some others. I spent a couple of weeks casually learning the layout of a few places and never needed to hunt these down again.
