Speculation about release date

I know I am grasping at straws here, but on some other forum (honestly can't remember where) I remember reading someone suggesting that the release day will be conditioned by Frontier's financial year. So I went to check on their 2016 financial report (http://ar2016.frontier.co.uk/assets/pdf/frontier-developments-2016-annual-report-and-accounts.pdf) and indeed their financial years end on May 31st. Considering that the 2016 report makes a big deal of the XBOX launch of ED (released in October 2015), one could speculate that they might want to feature the revenues from the PS4 launch on ther 2017 report. To make it happen, however, I guess one would need at the very least a couple of weeks of data to include before closing the report. So well, my wild speculation (and maybe hope?) is that we'll see the game launched sometime between the 1st and the 15th of May at the latest. Then again, they might manage to get everything ready before that!

I think early/mid-May is very likely considering the main thrust of purchases will be within the first couple of weeks of the game going on sale. It's definitely a great opportunity for Frontier to close their financial year on a high. The PS4 release of Elite dangerous along with Planet Coaster's sales will probably make for very nice reading in their following Trading Update (probably mid-July) / End of year statement (probably early September).

Nice logic.

It'll be an internal push / pull between the developers wanting to refine as much of the code as possible and the financial arm wanting to get the game out as soon as possible.
As Elite is now out of any exclusivity period, I expect that the only delaying factor must be working on code to make the game the best it can be.

I'm assuming July or August, especially if they are hoping to launch with PSVR features. I'd love for something earlier, but not getting my hopes up.

Always presume whenever anything like 'q2' is stated as release window, that it will be at the very end of q2. Any earlier is then just a very nice surprise :)

Personally, I'm guessing for right around the second anniversary of the xbox gpp date, which was mid June, I can't remember the exact date.

My guess would be with 2.4 or even with 3.0. Then they'll have another season to sell on release. As they did say that PS4 players would get Horizons as standard.
