[SPECULATION] Odyssey, replacing ED as we know it.

Watched a few video's an unless I got it wrong. Odyssey is going to be a 60+ download which will apparently replace what we've come to know as ED. And again, if I got it right, there is going to be a reset of sorts in which like switching from one device to another such as PS4 to Xbox or PC for instance. One will maintain there Cr's, any and all ships will be melted and the revenues given to the player which include the 5 percent melt fee. And one status starts over, which means the grind to Admiral or King starts over as well.

If I'm correct, then because a ship containing upgraded and or engineered mods when sold, means one looses 5 percent on the mods. I'd suggest that prior to installing Odyssey, strip and sell any and all mods prior to installing Odyssey. Mods sold separately maintains the cost one paid for them. Reselling the ship with mods still in them means the 5 percent reduction will be included in regards to the selling of the ship.

Ummm what the heck are you on about... or better question what the heck are you on?

Odyssey does not touch your ships, credits, ranks or anything else with your current game. It as a few pretties for those that can't afford it and new gameplay for those that can.

Do NOT strip down your ships!

Given the fact that Odyssey is an optional purchase, and that the base game will still be able to be played, I strongly suspect that we'll just carry on as before with the option to get out of our ship on foot if playing Odyssey.

I thought he might be wrong but glad someone said otherwise cause that would have been insane... strip all my ships down. If that was even a possibility i would have just bought an extra account.

Oh god, please do this if at all ignorant of the facts, I cant wait for the threads!

I think OP has confused the initial Alpha with the main release....but they also said 'watched a few videos' which means they are getting their info from misinformed and opinionated streamers rather than Frontier....or worse, from SC streamers or players who say Odyssey is a single player game.

Whom ever added "speculation" thanks.
IF and I've asked the question numerous times, ED is about 25 or so gigs, and Odyssey is 60 gigs. And Odyssey doesn't exactly replace ED in it's entirety. That make the game about 85+ gigs. Thus some will have to reinstall because the drive ED is on, may be to small to handle an additional 60+ gigs. The way I understand it is, If one prepays for Odyssey and not the alpha portion. When it goes live, it will auto update when one logs on and if so, does it not change, alter ED as we know it.
One of the most recent and assumable first video's tell of having to choose a new cmdr. and the introduction of a new currency. I realize he may be speaking only of the alpha, but...

I may have misspoke but I didn't mean one should sell aka melt one's ships today or tomorrow. Only if we will indeed loose everything and have it replaced as one does when switching device's they currently utilize now to another.

I think you have totally misunderstood what is happening.

Participants in the Alpha test will create a new commander who will operate within the confines of the alpha universe. As the Alpha test progresses, more and more will become available to that commander, travel in limited number of systems, then some form of exploration "fudge" test.

All of that is entirely separate from your Elite Dangerous game - completely insulated. When Alpha testing is finally completed all the Alpha progress will be deleted, it will not be slipped onto your pre-existing game. The only crossover will be in the final phase when a snapshot of your main game commander will be added to your Alpha "universe" to test compatibility. "Snapshot of players’ Commanders added to ALPHA"

So in short - no need for any of what you suggest in your OP.

I think the reset you speak of is alpha and beta player progress will be reset to pre alpha/beta to avoid a head start to stats and gear making having the alpha/beta not a pay to win mechanic. I could be wrong though

The Alpha first phase is just one system, no ships, new Alpha CMDR, so it looks like this is where the OP is getting confused. Stage 4 is all your old stuff including FC's ships and etc in a snapshot of the galaxy, just like all the previous beta tests.

You need to share what you're smoking, it's obviously quality stuff. Every update replaces your installation, this one just has a bunch of new graphics and sounds and they take up a lot of space.

well if we have only discovered 0,000.1% of our virtual galaxy or something along those lines
which is hardly anything at all I don't see what harm a great reset would do really
for all the virtual impact we are having
which is for all intent and purposes
virtually none at all
