Speculative question regards Thargoid Engineering in 2.4 and beyond

A while ago I collected 40 of each of the Thargoid and Guardian data and materials types as I figured that when anti-Thargoid defences and weaponry become available, Engineers will want these so that they can upgrade them...

...I've been wondering about the Thargoid and Guardian commodities as well though, especially as all the Thargoid ones are highly corrosive...

...will these commodities also be required by Engineers? Also will corrosive commodities, that we can only really carry two or four of at a time, be required?

This also raises questions about commodities then also being required for all other Engineer upgrades again, so what would this mean (if it happens this way) for the long-awaited introduction of commodity storage at Engineer bases?

So many questions, so I thought I'd throw this out to all of you to see what your thoughts might be :)
